"Over there," Jonathan pointed down the long hallway of walls stacked high with skulls and bones which led further in the catacombs, "we're getting closer."
"So let me get this straight," Antoine said under his breath. The candelabra in his hands was shaking slightly, "We're going towards the creepy chanting?"
"Creepy karaoke is always a sign that you're on the right track."
"And why would we want to go there?"
Jonathan stopped and looked at his boyfriend. The young artist's beautiful face was illuminated by the light of the candles, showing the fear in his big dark eyes.
"You followed me, Antoine, I tried to keep you out of this."
"I'm sorry that I wanted to know what is really going on with the man I love. You became so weird after the weekend at my parents' place."
Jonathan sighed, swallowing the anger that stirred within him. Antoine was right, of course, he had been distant but mostly because everything had become too much to handle. It wasn't as easy to keep a healthy balance between his job and a relationship with a human who wasn't supposed to know about the world of the supernatural. Matthias had told him as much but did he listen? Of course not. And now it was all crashing down around him.
"Just stay close to me and I will keep you safe," he said, hoping that he could keep that promise.
"Can't we just go back and-"
"No, this is my one chance to catch these guys. They have been a thorn in the side of my boss for months and this ends now."
"Your boss isn't an art dealer as you said, is he?"
Jonathan bit his lip. "Not really... well, he is one... it's one part of his business. But not his main occupation."
"Is he a witch too?!"
"He's a vampire."
"I had dinner with a vampire?!"
"Antoine. Not. Now. Seriously, not now. I'll explain everything when we get out of here."
"When or if?"
"When." Jonathan said determinedly and continue down further into the darkness before Antoine could question him more.
