"Wait... is the sky getting brighter?"

"That's usually what happens in the morning," Richard said with a smile, "I thought you knew."

Tariq stared at the dark water of the Thames, not daring to meet Richard's bright blue eyes. "Have we really been sitting here for so long?"

It seemed as if he had only just run into Richard fooling around with that girl at the club after his gig followed by the mess involving the girl's boyfriend but now he realized that they had been here for several hours. And he wished this night would never end but the light of the morning that slowly spread across the sky made it clear that this hope was futile.

"Yeah, we did."

"I didn't notice," Tariq said before silence fell over them again. The water swept against the stone of the small pier that they were sitting on. Richard took another sip from his whisky. Guess he was a morning drinker now.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"You must think I'm an idiot," Tariq replied, still fixed on the water of the Thames, "or at least that I'm really silly."

"Why would I think that?"

"Because you're so... I don't know... liberated, I guess. But I... I mean... I really thought that what we did yesterday night..."

"Oh boy," Richard put down his drink.

"See?"

"I'm sorry, Tariq, I really didn't notice."

"I'm not blaming you," Tariq gestured a little helplessly, "when I left Oman I thought I would become this proud gay man who finally gets to live his life as he wants to but here I am thinking that one night of sex means that..." He trailed off.

"That there's something between us."

"Exactly. I'm an idiot."

"No, you're a romantic."

"Same thing."

"You definitely spent too much time with Jon." Richard smiled. "And for the record, I think you're really sweet."
