Description

Oman, Arabian Peninsula, 2016

The sun burns harshly on the eternal sands of the Rub’ al Khali desert. A place of heat and death, endless and unforgiving. However, where there is light, there is also shadow. Hidden beneath the sands, dark secrets are lost in those shadows. Three men are drawn towards them. One with darkness in his heart himself, one who believes in doing the right thing and one whose fate is tied to both of them. An ancient power is stirring below and not everyone will survive its awakening.

Jonathan Bouchard, globetrotting mercenary and renowned "Obtainer" among the shady individuals of the world, just finished a job in Oman and is about to leave for Paris when he finds out that new ruins have been discovered outside the quaint village of Hamz Al Wasila. Never one to pass an opportunity, Jonathan gets himself involved with the archaeologist who works on the site, Dr Malory Bush, and - to his own surprise - crosses paths with Whitechurch Society agent Velkan Ionescu. The relationship between him and Velkan, well, it's complicated.

Jonathan soon finds himself caught up in more trouble than he expected. He meets a young Bedouin, Tariq Alfarsi, who not only saves his life but who, despite Jonathan trying his best to prevent that, gets mixed up in the supernatural events which begin to unfold. The excavations woke up something beneath the sand...

Cover art for the story which introduces Tariq. I wanted to try something new and go for an Indiana Jones poster inspired style.

Yeah, I'm considering using this style for short comics because it saves me from having to render out super high-quality pictures. Still have to see if it works

Yes, comics are hideously labour-intensive... (but so much fun!)

I have a feeling you'd do great comics though!

I did a comic ages ago, I think around 2011. It's still in my gallery. www.deviantart.com/ulysses3dar…

Beware, though, the English isn't very good (a lot of the dialogue is actually the lyrics to songs from the German musicals "Dance of the Vampires" and "Dracula" and I was a little too literal in my translations. The German syntax really shines through) and it ends really abruptly, never to be finished

Oh yes, I remember that one; and that it was rather good!

Don't worry about German syntax; if one reads it with a bit of a German accent, it could be a German narrating it... and it was! Β

(Yes, my head-voices have accents. I have very many, very interesting head-voices...)

That makes it only scarier to me Now I hear my comic with one of those incredible phoney movie Nazi accents, you know, the ones with a lot of Z's in them "Zis is zeee end for you, Mizzzzta Bond!"
