whosthisdouchebag.png(technically chapter 2, I guess-- realizing a little too late I may have organized these oddly, so I hope it's not too confusing, ahaha. just be sure to read the prologue linked down there, yo)
time for more exposition and world building, whoooo. hopefully that first part doesn't feel too much like a massive info dump-- I tried to make it flow pretty naturally and even it out a lil'.
some of you may recall that your rival's pokemon don't actually get visible natures. more knowledgable people probably already know that natures didn't even exist in crystal yet! the natures are actually something I included anyway since I feel like it's such a "staple", and I thought it'd be nice to have. during my actual run, when I caught a new pokemon, I would just open up a random number generator and roll with what I got for each character. it was mostly for me to get some basic personalities for people as I was playing and see how I could to develop them. I did the same for a couple others, including the rival's pokemon, though I suppose it doesn't really change much in this case. he's still kind of a douche :Y

With this sort of scene in a Nuzlocke, I feel the need to ask: Did you lose the Rival Battle? If so, doesn't that end the run?

Nahhh, I won the rival battle! I just usually interpret in-game events more loosely based on what works better for the story, so in this case, Leon's gotta get completely walked over :V

Holy moly! I've read a lot of rivals, but I've never had such a visceral reaction because its so real. I especially like Leon's expression as he hides under his jacket. Immediately hooked!

thanks! the rival's pokemon names I actually just chose myself, since all the ones in game are just their normal pokemon name. Arian's name does have a kinda sorta meaning behind it, though. which becomes super obvious if you just google the literal meaning of it, but shh ;0

When I read this I was actually kinda confused at first on what you meant. Then it just hit me.
And now I'm kinda awkwardly laughing and feeling really silly because that was actually completely unintentional and didn't even occur to me until now. The reference I was making was something different actually. I've been working on this story for a while and I'm not sure how I somehow missed that really obvious connotation the entire time, haha ohhh dear. and yep! though usually legendaries are the only ones who are not gijinkas, just because I think keeping them as creatures make them have a more ~mysterious and legendary~ air to contrast with all the people :>
