Description Oh, this yinglet seems smart, better show him this "perhaps" very valuable material.
One cant argue with old peoples decisions.

Mori´rai´s practice of the pronunciation of the "th" sound makes itself known here.
Guess he wants to make the best impression he can, by mastering zhe "The"!

They don’t really know but this “Stargold” is probably a very highly radioactive mineral.

Maybe
The comic ends with a single black page with the text:

And they all died of an unknown illness a few years later.

How was he able to make the "th" sound? Closest I can figure is using the roof of his mouth in place of front teeth, which requires you to pull your tongue back in your mouth. It would take a lot of practice to do, and would still have a pause in speech every time he starts to say a word with "th" in it. Still impressive.

Hehe, it really is the one thing that baffles many peopel about this character.
Mori´rai´s shell-tooth is growing more to the right in his mouth and this enables him to more easily pronounce "th" words, which he has grown to prefer.

A yinglet CAN do the "th" sounds, but with great difficulty. So its easier for them to just go with "zh" or "da"

I thought it was impossible for a yinglet to make the TH sound because of their shelltooth's placement.

Umbrascythe In reply to Rei-Azalia [2018-08-12 21:09:17 +0000 UTC]

A yinglet CAN make the "the" sound if they try really hard, so therfore it is easier to go with the "zhe" as everyday use.
Mori´rai´s shelltooth is placed a bit more to the right in his mouth, so he has it a bit easier with the "the" sound.

He is also starting to prefer it, but when flustered or taken aback the "zhe" comes out.

even if it is useless then it would still be worth a lot.
gold is horrible material very feeble and heavy its main use is to keep out radiation.
the only reason that its worth so much is because its rare.

gold is soft and heavy but engineers prefer lead to keep out radiation. gold on the other hand is the best electrical conductor and doesn't rust wich is why it's used mainly for processors and other electronic components. we'd probably be making computers entirely with gold rather than copper if it wasn't for the excessive price tag

Makes me wish Eldorado was real but only discovered NOW. The practical value of gold would go up even as its numismatic value dropped to zero.
Idiots who write about “golden cities” never account for what a disaster it was for the conquistadors to introduce so much Aztec gold onto the European market all at once. Ruined the European economy for years until it spread out evenly, which motivated Rome to increase their indulgence abuses (with a focus on SILVER coin), accelerating the Reformation.

well lead is mostly used because its way cheaper.
nasa uses gold because they have to money to actually use it.

The material is new, and the few who handles it is not really sure of its uses yet.

Gold´s worth in these times, are as it were the the medieval times,
a status symbol and currency etc. But Gold also has a very long history,
both with common people and scholars and it is associated with nobility and wealth, purity and so on.

If one day, you found something totally new but no one was really sure of what it could be used for, it wouldn't be worth a lot.

So right now, they got a shiny rock, but it is not a diamond, crystal or any known material, so, what is it purpose but being a pretty rock?

I'm guessing Mori'rai can make the "th" sound since he has the mutation for having a full set of teeth, but just habitually adopted regular Yingspeak since that was how he learned to talk?

Umbrascythe In reply to LrdZanny [2018-04-16 16:36:35 +0000 UTC]

Normal yinglets can also produce the "th" sound if he/she tries hard, but it is rather difficult for them to do it all the time. So they just go with "ze" or "de" It´s eazier!

Mori´rai dose indeed have a fine set of teeth, including all but premolars.
His shelltooth is located a bit more to the right side, rather than in the middle. So he has it a bit easier with the pronunciation of the "th" sound.
Yes, he normally talks like a normal yinglet, using the usual "zhe, zhat, zituation" etc. He might have learned that before coming to the village, or maybe there is another reason?

I sense a case of Stargold fever incoming. I wonder how that kind of obsession affects Yinglets?

Ooooh! Look at all zhe pretty shinystones.

Well, it depends on how long it stays a "hush-hush" subject.
Could you imagine yinglet gold diggers?

Yep! I can see a Yinglet raising a pickaxe abouve his head but it slips out of his hands and the pointy bit burries itself in the ground between the toes of the guy behind him. -

what do you mean with a hush hush subject?

Umbrascythe In reply to kabhes [2018-04-16 16:10:58 +0000 UTC]

Oliver says that this is a rather new material and a few knows about it.
So it might indicate that its not something revealed to the wider public. Yet.

Frame 9 it says:

:What is it?
:To be honest no one is really sure,
or, no one who KNOWS about this anyway.

So its a little hush-hush / secret.

I did actually look it up, as I was afraid I might take something very popular I didn´t know of.
Though the only big thing I found was an indian film studio, named "StarGold"

I dont really have a fixed/specific schedule I post the pages on, but my dream goal is a somewhat weekely release!
