1 (nc)
2 MC Thank you. Diamond Tiara, what do you think? Which line is the closest match by length for the red line on the left?
2 DT (nc)
3 MC Thank you. I have just shown you an old conformity experiment. Conformity is a phenomenon when a pony tends to do something considering the behaviour of other ponies.
In fact, the red and black lines are the closest match by length, but I asked the girls to give a deliberately wrong answer.
4 DT Then you tricked me!
And this... This! It was all just a con job!

Thank you, I will correct this typo. And regarding the last phrase, “put-up job” is a set expression.

The moment the CMC gave the wrong answer and Diamond Tiara showed up, I knew it was an experiment. :-P

Next time, Diamond Tiara, don't be an arrogant brat.

Good comic in of itself. But Diamond TIara's ego is far too large, and she DOESN'T SEE the CMC as her peers, so that psychological trick wouldn't work with her.
If two of the CMC gave a wrong answer, and the third one gave the same answer to fit in, THEN it would work.

She also got "Thank you" from the teacher, which she possibly interpreted as confirmation of the correct answer.

Which is after she gives the answer, and as such wouldn't impact the egocentric nature to influence the response. I know the test you are talking about, but I don't think you fully understand the nature of the test. The test themselves are based on lines, as you have noted, but it requires all or most of the "confederates" to answer incorrectly which you did not demonstrate. Secondly this all works on normative social influence, which is about social reward and avoidance of social punishments. Diamond Tiara as a character, is not afraid of social punishment when it comes to the CMC. As proven in the show itself. It could be argued she might have been going for a social reward, but...how could she get that from agreeing with one person? One that is outside her peer group (in her eyes)? If anything she would respond in such a way to look better than the CMC, and provide the obvious correct answer. Let's not forget that the Asch conformity test is inconsistent with it's data, and like the Meyers-Briggs is subject to interpretation, and nuances of the individual. Participants in the Asch test can experience self-doubting when they follow the crowd, and has been observed during experimentation. Your attempts to single out Diamond Tiara as a conformist for these reasons, just doesn't make sense.

Let me put it like this: There's an ice cream for 5$ and another one for 4,99$
The 5$ one is bigger and looks tastier, but instead of buying it everyone buys the other one, then instead of buying this one you go for the choice of the others and buy the 4,99$ one too.
I think it's somethig like this... Right?

Is it odd that the only reason I like this comic is because the CMC got to mess with DT?

I don't think it is odd. But why do you like the situation when they got to mess with each other?

I think you mean "conformity" since this is one of Asch's key studies.
Nice to see some real psychology info in pony comics though.
