This is apparently the only time the Master Ball was brought into the anime. Likely as a joke on the guy using it. Then again, it just wouldn't be interesting if everyone could just one-shot catch PokΓ©mon like this without some challenge.

I'm not sure what fails more, the fact that they managed to fail with a Master Ball, or that someone's using a Master Ball on a WHISCASH

This actually happened to my sister. Like some others said earlier, I don't know why someone would use a Master Ball on a Whishcash, and if I hadn't seen it happen to her, then I wouldn't have believed it.

But what I'm talking about happened on my sister's game, she used a Master Ball on a normal Whiscash (it wouldn't have been as bad if it was a shiny, but it wasn't), and the game actually said that the Whiscash ate the Master Ball.

She doesn't watch the anime, and a thought came to me after my last reply, the game came first, so it couldn't have been an easter egg referencing the anime. I doubt many people have thrown Master Balls at Whiscash, maybe it is something programmed into the game that most people don't know because of how unlikely the chance of that happening would be. If that is the case, then the anime may have been referencing the games with that.
