I chose the prompt "alien world" (thought about going with another option first, so I might still do that too... if I have enough time :I)

While drawing this I spent quite some time thinking about my weirdos and built some "history" around their species (sorry if this gets a bit messy, not good at writing) :

So, I often call them dragons too, but strictly they aren't dragons. They just have a lot of things in common in appearance. Their species' real name isn't Weirdos, they really just don't have a name for themselves, so that's what those who know them call them.

Their home is in their own universe (I really really like those multiverse concepts, like for example in the Witcher with the conjunction of the spheres or the infinite corridor in Castlevania). Though their universe (and the planets they are living on within it) has a lot of holes, gaps and bridges to other universes - thus it's not too unusual that a bored or confused Weirdo pops up in another universe. One of the first things they learn in their lifes is to avoid those places, so no poor weirdo hatchlings get lost by accident.

Their universe can be best described as hostile, confusing and sometimes simply deadly for everyone but them and other creatures who are native there. Things like red water and two moons are not considered special at all. Something like rain "falling" up, wandering forests, a lake gathering all it's water together to move to another location and sentient plants suddenly deciding to build a labyrinth, are considered mild inconveniences.

Also a small story outline to this picture:

The poor Weirdo on the right is a special case; while most headless like him are able to locate their heads at all time (and able to "see" without it), he isn't able to do that.

Therefore, after loosing his head after a narrow escape from a giant spider-kraken-water-thing (www.deviantart.com/umunschaas/… ), he stumbled around blindly until he found a settlement and hired some help.

Said help is the jawless on the left with a lot of eyes, he's actually a trained healer but considered that job as way too boring. So when he heard about a confused headless asking around for help he happily took the opportunity for some adventure.

At this point they managed to convince an eye-flower to come along, which is a kind of parasitic plant that connects to nerves and gives their "victim" extra eyes. That took quite some time because those flowers aren't big fans of adventures and generally prefer the company of writers and artists.... and they are also short-sighted, thus only helpful to a certain extend.

Currently they are resting on top of an extremely high mountain range they had to cross to get to the ocean.

(... in case you're wondering how the headless managed to get across those mountains on his way to find a settlement: a lot of stumbling, falling, running into things and frustrated drooling. He's stubborn.)
