Description
A challenge I gave myself here was to not make Koriand'r a sleazy mess like the new 52 costume - which is laughably bad - but still make her a sexy badass character. Hopefully I hit a few notes with this drawing - enjoy!ΒRelated content

Excellent job! You did a great job not making her look like a space trollop.Β If DC wants to know why more women and girls aren't interested in the female heroes, making them look slutty is one major reason. They aren't designing them realistically and for most females, it's a turn-off. Although, quite honestly, I've always preferred the guys over the girls anyway. I'm a die-hard fan of Batman and Nightwing fan (love, love, love your Nightwing) and of the DC universe in general, but impractical costumes (even hairstyles, etc) have made it hard to take some of the characters seriously. Thank you for your consideration. Starfire looks great in her reasonably-modest bikini and boots. ;DΒ

This is a gorgeous picture and I do like your lighting detail with the flames and her fire bursts in her hands blending with the sunlight Β in the background. Great work on her athletic figure and the outfit does look pretty cool.
Her facial detail is freaking breath-taking and so realistic.
This is a gorgeous picture

I noticed that in some of your illustrations, you reference actual actors/pop stars as your model...this image of Starfire looks like Kylie Minogue

Both Marvel and DC need to hire you as their movie costume designer.

I think you succeeded in making Starfire a sexy badass. I don't supposed you can do Raven at some point.

well even if DC no longer has ANY respect for the readers, characters, history or anything else at least great art like this shows that they are wrong in their ignorance. this is just about exactly what kori should look like in real life, that perfect combo of beauty, strength, power and unfettered emotion.Β

By the way your choice of outfit is actually what she is basically wearing now a days anyways. cdn.bleedingcool.net/wp-contenβ¦ this is what she was wearing prior to the solo comic media.animevice.com/uploads/3/β¦

I give you extra rops for not giving starfire pupils. Lately for reason unknown certain artists (both inΒ comic books(mainly Amanda conner)Β and on deviant) seem toΒ forget starfire has no pupils they are basically big green marbles.

This is a good balance!Β Koriand'r is a delicate balance because there is an aspect to her which is "over the top pinup girl" like an earlier Emma Frost, and an aspect to her which is "completely naive and unaware of the social conventions she's immersed in" which is a little exploitative as a basic conception.Β The detailing, seams, and patterns are really great, Titans Tower is little... I guess it would be, I appreciate that.

NaΓ―ve? try not to confuse comic book starfire with TV show starfire they are not that similar (unless your talking about Amanda conners starfire).

Good job !!!! and you are right New 52 costume is just ridiculuous althought the new costume in her own comic is a great improvement, she looks cute, sexy and powerful at the same time without showing over the edge.

Mm ... you bring up a good point. Β What's the fine line between sexy and sleezy when it comes to designing the costume for the female super heroine? Β I stopped worrying about this ... well ... maybe I never really did since it's up to what the viewer sees and their values.

Thanks man! She's originally a George Perez design for the new Teen Titans way back 1980-81 and has over the years had her costume reduced to pretty much pasties and a g-string. Little tiresome. So my daughter challenged me to do a drawing of her where she's still sexy and kickass but not a design hot mess like she is in the New 52. More function, less fanboy fantasy

I'd say 'achievement unlocked'. But, I thought it was a trend in the comic industry lately to veer away from such overt sexualization of their female characters. Am I mistaken?Β

No you're not mistaken it's a long overdue return to good design and grounded visual metaphor. There are still ill-advised exercises in throwback costuming that pop up, like the latest iteration of Starfire in the new 52 rollout. She looked a lot less like an alien asskicker than a headliner at the Spearmint Rhino. Nothing wrong with that if that's the way you make your lucre but muddying the waters with the idea of superheroines seems like a low hanging fruit way to engage readership. Β Just my two cents

Yes that new 52 costume is ridiculous.. I really don't get it. They draw these female costume like they are 13 teens.
I mean women being sexy does not take much for us males..
