Description Well, hopefully by now you know my M.O. sketch, scan, & photoshop. Took me a while to pause the movie (The Grudge 2) at just the right moment to draw this. If you've seen the film, this is where Kayako's creepy head rises out of a tray of blackened developer fluid in the darkroom scene. I just loved the angle and the way you only see a little bit of her face in that shot. The logo in the upper right was a last minute addition .

(Sorry that comment went in a wrong place, thanks for my tablet x'D)

Oh, those movies sound interesting !
Yes, Shimizu is quite good director. Shame that he didn't direct the third one. But after all, the Grudges are not the best horror movies I think x'D and yeah, 1 & 2 they're both little confusing.

Oh I see! But I'd like to watch them still c: I've become very interested about horror movies, where's something haunting black haired girls XD lol.. And I wanna see Ring, too!

Ahahah, that game sounds stupid XD... why should die in the end?! XD

Thanks :3 Yeah, I loved how uncharacteristically calm she looked when rising out of the liquid - which I think might have been shot in reverse since her eyes were open the whole time. It showed that she can kill with creativity Shame about the third movie; the new girl wasn't terrible, but to me she seemed more like a cute, drunk geisha than a proper homicidal ghost. Only Fuji-san could do it properly, the makeup, the timing, the expressions, all of it.

Yep Kayako is an awesome character, I love that ghost girl !! <3
Hmm.. I won't watch the third one.... I bet it's very bad XD Because... that second movie was confusing and quite poor too I think.... But I watched it because of Kayako!! <3

Yes her actress is very good ! Have you seen the Japanese Ju-Ons?

I've been watching a bit of J-Horror movies lately, likeΒ Kuchisake-onna, about a ghost woman that instead relies on brute strength, and has an interesting way of staying "alive", another good one I'd recommend. There's also Marebito, also directed by Shimizu-san, about a man who discovers a strange woman in a forgotten world under a Tokyo subway. And also, Rinne, about a hotel that becomes haunted after a man goes on a mass murder spree.
Yeah, 3 was a different director. Shimizu-san said that if he was director of 3, there was no way anyone else but her would be playing the part - but it got a different director, and a different actress, and suffered the consequences :C I liked the second one actually, not quite as much as the first maybe, but it had its moments, thanks to Fuji-san and the creativeness of the kills and hauntings. I found the first one a bit confusing because of how often it would switch from past to present - you had to pay attention to who was alive, who wasn't, the state of the Saeki house, etc.

I have, and I didn't find them as scary to be honest. Her acting skills were alright, but I think they've definitely improved much since then, and her ghost makeup became a lot scarier, especially her hair bothered me in the original Japanese versions, it looked too neat and trimmed for a ghost I think. Lol, did you know there's a Grudge-based game? They called it a "Haunted house simulator", lol, like isn't the point of a simulator to make a virtual version of something real? But it's a Wii exclusive, I've seen videos of people playing it, and well, it doesn't really have much plot to it, you switch between 3 or 4 characters armed with nothing but a flashlight (not that there is a proper weapon against the spirits), and I'm pretty sure none of them survive... and I don't knowΒ about you but, I play games to win, not to die lol.Β Otherwise, what's the point, you know? All that work and then you just die in the end? No thanks.

I remember reading a little interview thingy that stated that this was one of the scenes she was most excited to do when playing Kayako. I don't blame her! The scene is eerie and amazing, and you really get a sense of the fact that the guy she's going after is screwed! There's a gif of just her emerging from the developer, and I LOVE watching it! Thanks much I prefer the american remakes myself simply because in them Kayako more resembles what I'd imagine a ghostly corpse to look like whereas the Juon movies are the more traditional approach, which I can definitely appreciate too.

I like the forieng originals, I personally dislike american remakes in general, one of my favorite movie series a spanish horror film saga called REC

That's usually the case for me, I just wasn't scared by the japanese versions, in fact some of it kinda made me smile. I think it's because american horror movies will desensitize you in the fear department to the point where the "jump" tactic is the only way to get a response out of you. What I love about Kayako though is she doesn't have to do that, jump out at you. If I saw her in real life, I'd piss myself and have a heart attack even if she was just standing there not moving - Takako Fuji is just amazing like that. I always get paranoid after watching any of the ju-on/grudge movies. Haven't heard of that, but I'll youtube it and check it out.

Sorry, I keep forgetting to clean up my profile page, a lot of comments were hidden Lol yeah it did look like she was thinking that Hmm, I think it's because they're so perfect and idealized; Similar to how beautiful models are supposed to look a certain way, the spirits have a certain way they are supposed to look and Kayako is a perfect example of that look, beautiful yet horrifying at the same time. And unlike most movies where the only way the monsters can scare you is by jumping out and making a loud noise, if she wanted to Kayako could simply stand there or slowly crawl and scare you just with her soul-piercing stare.

I was thinking if she had a ghost off between Sadako who would win?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UncleHappy5 In reply to waynerichards [2011-10-12 07:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, wow lol. I dunno, cuz Kayako has the ability to appear anywhere she wants, even in places there's no way a human-sized body could even fit, as shown in this image. Sadako on the other hand has psychic powers, so she may be able to predict what Kayako does, however, she uses her ESP to predict the actions of people; Another spirit may be a bit a bit less predictable, especially one as versatile as Kayako. Who'd win, I'm not sure. I think they're pretty evenly-matched. Hmm, well they made a Freddy vs. Jason (which let's be honest, sucked) but a Kayako vs. Sadako movie, co-directed by both Shimizu and Nakata... Oh, and while looking for pictures of Takako, I found this: [link] lol

Thanks! I'm not entirely satisfied with how the reflection turned out, but I guess I made it work. Yea, I love Ju-on/Grudge, except the Grudge 3, which wasn't that great. Ju-on is definitely more true to the lore. The Grudges scared me more, but I blame American horror movies, they just have loud sounds that make you jump; Makes it so that's the only thing that scares me now. Ju-on really scared me when i was little lol

Very nice (^ ^). I remember that scene in the movie. In the movies, her eyes looked kind of....funny. Not in a bad way. She looked like as if her eyes are saying, "Hey, what's up." in a calm-ish like voice. ...Anyways, really nice . I'm going to add it on my fav's (^ ^).

Thank you ! Eyes make the character in my opinion, or perhaps even a lack thereof...
I'm assuming you mean the reflection of her face in the dark liquid. The reflection, like the rest of it, was pencil at first. Then I did a whole lot of smudging and blurring in Photoshop. I used the motion blur tool for a lot of the texturing in this one, including that reflection.
