Cara’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Not only are they okay, they're amazing. Ethan is super comfy and warm on chilly nights like this and Suzan is the best boots I’ve ever had. I’ve never once gotten a blister wearing her.”
“Don’t you, um, ever miss them as humans?” I asked. I was feeling increasingly disconcerted at the casual way that she talked about wearing her transformed friends as I stared at her boots and shirt.
“Why would I?” Cara said, with a genuinely confused look on her face. “They’re right here with me. I spend time with them all the time. We’ve never been closer.”
I stood there dumbstruck, but Cara just smiled at me and patted the seat next to her, “Want to take a seat? Do you come to these things often?”
I spent the rest of the evening talking with Cara as her warmth and friendliness slowly got me to open up. While the topic of her clothes didn’t come up again, I couldn’t help glancing at them, causing Cara to smile every time she noticed it.
