Description Umm.

I know it's not all that great, might no even be all that helpful, but I try.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my friends.
Enjoy!

[EDIT] There, I think now the image is showing in full. My connection was screwing up with me yesterday and I think it only uploaded part of it, should be fixed now!

I find this really useful. I only have a problem. I'm using photoshop CS2. Do you know where I could find the stroke tab? I can't find it anywhere.

First, you have to set your brush settings to your desired stroke width/type of brush etc., then when you start outlining with the pen tool and when that's done, just right click and select 'stroke path' or 'stroke subpath' (if it's not a closed path). Select brush, and you're done!

You might want to check out a tutorial written by ~donbenni , it's specifically written for Photoshop users. Good luck!

Hi, this looks like a great tutorial. But I can't get started. I just installed Ai CS3 and will be following this tutorial. Everytime I open my file, Ai shrinks it... I don't know what to do... This is my first time using Ai

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

under18carbon In reply to revimaru [2009-07-22 13:28:18 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean by AI shrinks it? It resizes your source image?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

revimaru In reply to under18carbon [2009-07-24 10:33:19 +0000 UTC]

i don't think it resizes the source, just the pasted image... then it gets "pixelized" when I try to enlarge it..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

under18carbon In reply to revimaru [2009-07-24 14:38:24 +0000 UTC]

That happens to me occasionally too with certain images, however if I resize it back up to the original size it doesn't appear to get pixelated again I'm not quite sure what the problem might be...

I'm new with illustrator and struggling with the gradient/colouring bit. Which layer do I do the gradient on. In the top left I have "No selection" and I am wondering if this has anything to do with it.

- I've just tried clicking the path for the outline and I get path where it says no selection. I can now use the gradient tool but still nothing shows up, I've tried it on several different layers.

Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you. I'm not so sure if I understand your question... do you mean you can't get to fill a shape with gradients?

As I said, I figured it out. Thanks for replying though.

Doesn't matter, I've worked it out. Done basic colouring on it now, I think I've just got lights, wheels and then shading/highlights and then I'm done.

I didn't say previously but it is an excellent tutorial, I've always struggled hopelessly with vectors because I find it too easy to give up at the difficult parts. However, your tutorial is easy to follow and makes everything seem much more simple.

I have a problem I cant use different colors for gradients besides black and white

under18carbon In reply to smvuy [2009-02-11 13:01:42 +0000 UTC]

Hit Ctrl + F9 to bring out the gradient tab, and you will see two tiny boxes with the colour white and black. Just double click on the first box and then select the colour you want using the fill thingie on the toolbar. I hope that makes sense :S

Dragor666Shadex [2008-02-19 00:06:08 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thanks alot for making and posting this tutorial. It really motivated me to make a vector line art of my favorite car. But I have 1 little question that stops me from finishing it.. Hope you can help me out.

Question: For example, I have the main outline and the outline of the headlights these 2 are very close together so when I vector both they get over each other, I know that there is someway tofix this with pathfinder or something but i've tried everythign and it didnt work out. So how make then "fuse?" together so you dont get these ugly dubble lines.

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

under18carbon In reply to Dragor666Shadex [2008-02-20 05:58:54 +0000 UTC]

I'm not very knowledgeable on using pathfinder (still learning myself ), but I'll try to see if I can help you out. Are the headlights and the main outline on the same layer? What I usually do is to have the main outline as the topmost layer, and draw my headlights on a new layer under the main outline using a thinner line stroke so the lines would stay hidden under the main outline (the headlights have to be a closed path of course).

I hope that answers your question, if I misunderstood it, then by all means please don't hesitate to drop me an email or IM me if you want.
