So much roasting of this OC jeez, XD OC's are fun things! The character is special to its creator and probably makes sense in their fanon. It's not like it has to be some super fancy thing according to the standards of pro character design befitting the real MLP universe lol. On that, though, I think it's a good design. Yeh, it's edgy and dark but that's the point! Character designs are meant to communicate who the character is and, while it has become a huge cliche to make a design like this, the character design does exactly what it is supposed to by communicating the character. Bagging out a design is not constructive criticism and it does not make you look like a sophisticated artist- critique itself is an art-form. Also, from what I've seen, Cold-Burn has been a great sport about all this shade lol so leave them alone.

indeed, granted i made this character before i even knew what Cliche or MLP even was XD the character is actually more personal to me. my page explains his colors and the reason for them. hes a representation of me from a Fan fic i made when i was little for a book series, hes actually not even considered that powerful in that universe and has always been an Alicorn XD hes more lower tier. but everyone has been going crazy ever since i imported him to the MLP fandom. not sure that black is very Edgy, its kind of main stream where i come from. i wonder what they would say if someone with black skin made a black OC... would he be edgy all of a sudden XD i come from a very mixed family heritage which includes black, so i celebrate the color. this image more pokes fun at his insecurity's hence why his left side shows his slight embarrassment that others now know he lost to a rock...the other side represents the military side of me and how i act when my family and friends are threatened or insulted. but no one looks for the meaning in pictures any more its all about image with some people...

You don't have to explain to me, I get it. In fact, you don't have to justify yourself to anyone.
BTW I meant that the cliche IS that OCs of the colours black and red are usually coloured that way to make a character look edgy, not that being black is edgy. I don't think people of colour who identify as part of the 'black' community are automatically edgy. XD I also assume (and hope) other people don't think of it that way, that would be weird pony racism.
The reason there is an assumption that black and red alicorns are all edgy angsty teens with dark pasts bis that MLP characters can be of any bright colour and normally are pale, pastel colours; so people expect peoples' OCs to be bright pastel colours so they will look canon... but an OC DOES NOT have to look canon! It's your own OC and you aren't hurting anyone by having it. If people don't have anything nice to say, they ought not to say anything at all.
Most people probably don't even think of racial identity as a decider of the colouring of a MLP OC but that is a clever way to make the design meaningful to you!
To be fair, the haters probably don't realize that you might view their judgement as problematic. Being of the black racial identity doesn't make a person the true colour of black (like #000000 on computers), nothing in real life is that dark so most people would not look at a true black pony OC and assume it was coloured like that to reflect someones' human racial identity. Obviously, nobody is true white (#FFFFFF ) either- but there are heaps of white OCs too... huh, I wonder if they all belong to caucasian designers- that's strange, I never thought of that before. Maybe a lot more of our racial identities are reflected in our OC designs than we realize. Interesting!
But I digress, even if the haters don't know why you chose those colours and design that you chose for this OC, it is no excuse for them to be rude! You do you and 'kill them with kindness', as they say. You have a great attitude. <3

oh well i mostly just felt like talking with you, because you seemed to be more reasonable and understanding individual that would at least try to get to know me. i am more related and have dark black family, i am actually a mix of colors. i have dark tan skin with White under tones (basically if we take my hand the palm of my hand is white, while the back of my hand is a constant dark Tan), and i don't even go outside to get a tan due to my disability's now. but i do have black family that i love and care about so it is a color identity i identify with. i have African, Irish, Colombian, Native Indian, Puerto Rican, Korean, Russian and Indian in my family. we are a very multicultural family, i have loved the color black since i was little so its been my favorite color as it calms me like how i used to look up at the sky at night to see the dark endless expanse just before the stars came into view. space has always been a huge topic for me, so has many sciences. my walls as a kid where painted black with glow stars to help me get to sleep at night. also a lot of my family crest's have the base color being black. so their is a lot of black color influence in my life.

I apparently had an African great, great grand mother but I never knew her, of course. Her decedents are all fairly olive-toned and have strong cheekbones from her but it's pretty subtle and the rest of my family is pretty dang white lol. There may have also been indigenous Australians on Dad's side too but not that I know of for sure. My mother's side is from Ireland and a combination of the decedents of both the convict slaves and their slave-owners from when the colonials wiped out the black indigenous population to make room to turn Tasmania, Australia into a jail for disadvantaged English people. Yucky. My name, Shannon, is irish and my mothers' maiden name is O'Donnell, which is too. :3

my previous generation of family were all travelers, they all met and mingled with other races a lot and married into them. while being from many different previous generation cultures, the majority of us do not hold ourselves to the previous cultures we came from. the main perspective my family holds is Family is Family and that is all that matters. a good majority of my family are White, but mostly due to the genetic frequency and location. skin color even black has started to fade after a few generation of living in the more northern hemisphere. where the majority of my family hails from. the latest additions to the family are Puerto Rican and Irish and native Indian and then theirs me who was born looking half and half XD sadly a large majority of my family is dead though T_T only a few of us remain alive....well besides very distant cousins. they live all around the world and sadly do not keep in contact much.

lol XD that could be one reason, accept that's his natural hair color. hes actually riled up a bit after losing to a rock 50 times in a row. then someone comes along and insults Maud for having a rock pet. so hes taking his frustrations out on them. but i can see the hair dye thing with his right eye XD

i know right i remember when i was one of the Few Alicorn fans in existence before it was cool, ever since MLP:FiM they are everywhere XD but regardless i will never change ^_^ it was the Alicorn's that brought me to MLP in the first place. that's how my little niece got me to watch it with her. she said this show Has Alicorns like the one's in your favorite books and Fan fic's, come watch it with me uncle. @_@ now i am hooked forever.

yup, the way she got her 'cutie mark' was by accident, and then everyone just assumed that it was her talent.
so, she kept up the habit of her fake mark, by re-painting it on her flank everyday.
