A long time ago "wet manes" were a theme among the pony fandom. I was wondering what it would look like if Sparky had a wet mane and then realized she'd likely be electrocuted in the process. It seems the most natural place for a wet mane would be in a "wet mane contest" (thus the title of the work), where Sparky likely got mistaken for a contestant.
