Description EDIT: MOVED TO

schoolwork. An exercise in realism, and first time i've really referenced some work for class. The main picture i looked off of for tone and structure was : [link]
Our assignment was a nature study done in ink, which later in the semester, we'll be coloring it with acrylics in a cell shading style.

Done on scratchboard, which kicks arsh as a medium. I used white scratcheboard and inked over only the necessary parts.

16" x 4" scratchboard

It is, it's a dream for that. you should look into trying this medium out, it's right up your alley

I luv scratchboads XD
They're so much fun and they can produce great results. The giraffe is nicely detailed and the size of the boad works very well here :3
I thought the giraffe looked like a baby....and then I looked at the link. Your reference was of a baby giraffe...
-_-

Unibomber703 In reply to wookieinmashoo [2008-03-06 04:16:53 +0000 UTC]

... was it? Gah, i wouldn't be surprised. I thought it's eyes were pretty damn big. though i like this medium so much, that I think i'm going to start doing more of these, maybe try and sell a set of them for big buckaroo's.

Maybe while i'm at it, i'll grow out of using stupid phrases like Buckaroo's -_-

wookieinmashoo In reply to Unibomber703 [2008-03-06 18:03:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, you did a great job making it look like a baby animal...without even realizing you're making a baby animle
I support scratchboards and I would love to see more :3

Unibomber703 In reply to wookieinmashoo [2008-03-09 06:55:38 +0000 UTC]

That's good, i think i'll be doing more with this. I found out this board is good for watercoloring with as well, so i'll probably do that next time

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wookieinmashoo In reply to Unibomber703 [2008-03-13 16:26:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you can add watercolor to the black and white boards, (especially the pre coated ones). I've never tried it though -_-

Holy carps! This is soooo beautiful! You've portrayed the way the giraffe's lips interact with the leaves it's eating very skillfuly. The cross-hatching is perfectly done, you have paid very close attention to detail and it's clear that you put your all into this. Well done!
