Description
EDIT: MOVED TOschoolwork. An exercise in realism, and first time i've really referenced some work for class. The main picture i looked off of for tone and structure was : [link]
Our assignment was a nature study done in ink, which later in the semester, we'll be coloring it with acrylics in a cell shading style.
Done on scratchboard, which kicks arsh as a medium. I used white scratcheboard and inked over only the necessary parts.
16" x 4" scratchboard

I luv scratchboads XD
They're so much fun and they can produce great results. The giraffe is nicely detailed and the size of the boad works very well here :3
I thought the giraffe looked like a baby....and then I looked at the link. Your reference was of a baby giraffe...
-_-

... was it? Gah, i wouldn't be surprised. I thought it's eyes were pretty damn big. though i like this medium so much, that I think i'm going to start doing more of these, maybe try and sell a set of them for big buckaroo's.
Maybe while i'm at it, i'll grow out of using stupid phrases like Buckaroo's -_-

Well, you did a great job making it look like a baby animal...without even realizing you're making a baby animle
I support scratchboards and I would love to see more :3

That's good, i think i'll be doing more with this. I found out this board is good for watercoloring with as well, so i'll probably do that next time

Yeah, you can add watercolor to the black and white boards, (especially the pre coated ones). I've never tried it though -_-

Holy carps! This is soooo beautiful! You've portrayed the way the giraffe's lips interact with the leaves it's eating very skillfuly. The cross-hatching is perfectly done, you have paid very close attention to detail and it's clear that you put your all into this. Well done!
