I don't think it work's like that, because if you remember back to Thor (the movie) Mjolnir hit the ground, but it didn't give way underneath the hammer. There was a big arse crater, but the ground the hammer was one was fine. So I'm pretty sure it can tell the differnece between living and non living? But either way, I reckon he'd be able to lift it.
