House Phoebes is one of the incredibly old houses of Astrarium dating back around eight to nine hundred years ago, their prestige coming from their ancestor, Phoebes, scientific discoveries, specifically the discovery of the use of Cetus oil and magic as a base for many advancements such as sustainable lighting with the most advanced usage being the planetarium‘s expansive night sky, manipulating a multitude of lights.

This discovery was enough to elevate him to one of the earliest sets of nobility, since then most of the members have made many magic and scientific discoveries. This has gained the family incredible wealth and notoriety throughout the years creating a sort of brand name. Historically the house has been very private with its affairs outside its massive contribution to the herd, not enough to be completely unknown to those outside the family but enough that they have always been known as serious and progressive throughout the years.

The last few decades of the house have been almost silent until the former current heir to the house passed from illness and their younger sibling took control of the house now that no one else is left, they opted to leave their current life of magic studies and ran for the parliament representing the Unum district and has been serving 4 terms as of current, an incorruptible member loyal to the king, keen on rooting out corruption in the government and the herd after being surrounded by it for too long.

Dark coats such as dark brown and pure black for its members, darker manes and tails of various textures are also a feature strongly seen in them as well as deep blue eyes. They have been almost mostly pure Kirin for many decades but a few hybrids have pooped in and out especially in the extended family and from more less significant marriages.

Its current head is a stark black kirin with brilliant blue scaling and a long dark mane, a perfect example of the family’s ancestral traits.

Numerous inventions and patents with their name appeared every generation or so, and so the public watched their heirs with interest as they sought out their interests in science and magic. At least in their corner of the woods, or if one were to search certain publications, the name Phoebes had impact.
And so, it was surprising to the older generations when House Phoebes quietly sank into the background. Over a course of decades they edged away from their professional circles and wealthy cliques and went quiet. All the way until the latest heir of the house took ill, and the one who showed up in their place was Thanatos. Thanatos had the old appeal, when he spoke people noticed. Well-spoken, bold, intense, all the things a Phoebes needed to succeed.
Thanatos had taken a scholarship in magic research, close to mastering in fire. Years of study had been made vain in seconds upon learning that his eldest sibling had taken ill. Second in line had married away, and with no parents manning the house that left it to the third in line. Thanatos. Now in charge of a residence, a title and its responsibilities, and any number of smaller houses nipping for a piece of the pie thanks to any number of cousins Thanatos just happened to have.
Thanatos came back with a clean slate to a system muddied with corruption and inept waste. As much as he would have loved to make use of his learned talents, the first thing he did upon returning to his native land was attempt to move the deeds and accounts to his name. In his case, he had to talk to ‘a guy’, who just happened to be filthy rich, and make him a little more filthy rich just to get what he owned by law. Thanatos was not happy.
And so, Thanatos ran for parliament on the issues of corruption amongst the upper class and classism against those seen as below them. And he won. And four terms later, he’s still there. An unflinching voice of reason. His own reasons, of course. Thanatos has been a thorn in the side of many, or a blessing in disguise. He’s been back for a while now and while he might be known here and there around the capital, he’s kept his time close to the chest, and little is really confirmed about just who this bold maverick is and what he’s done in his life.
