Description
Lo and behold, here is a brand-new oeuvre d'art from yours truly. My recipient this year is *RidingInLongSocks , who requested a picture of Myrant, an OC stallion who was born blind, hence the weird blue eyes. I realized too late that he had no tail, so I just made his tail super-duper-short. Here's the full story, for you curious little monkeys: [link]
I hope it turned out okay. At least I got my entry done at the appointed time, for once. I think it helped that I used my tablet for this, and I forced myself to not be quite so picky about the lineart. I think the broad, sweeping strokes turned out rather nicely, don't you? As for those "dots" that surround the character, all I used was the soft brush and a very light shade of blue.
Merry Christmas, mates, and happy holidays!

I had some suggestions for your horse anatomy so I made a redline for you. Hope it's helpful.

Also, while making the redline I noticed that your image is very large. Just a suggestion but, while it's good to make the original file big, wen you submit it online it's a good idea to shrink it down. Often you should work at 300 or 360 dpi, but when you submit it online you should shrink it down to somewhere between 72 dpi and 200 dpi... 250 usually is the most.

What's dpi, and how do you shrink it down? If I make it too small it looks fuzzy.

"dpi" stands for "dots per inch"; essentially it's a printing term where image resolution is determined by dots of ink. It's translated to the screen as pixels... so maybe a better name would be "pixels per inch". XD But anyway, yeah, it's a term for image resolution.
When working with digital art, the standard is 300 or 360 dpi. Your image is over 500 which I guess you could work with but like I said, 300 or 360 is the standard.
When setting up a new document to start painting on, set it for 300 and then decide how big you would want the image to be if you printed it (over-simplifying it but that's the general idea). So, if I wanted to make a picture for a small poster, I would probably set it up for 300 dpi, 15 inches by 11 inches. And then I start my work! Later when I want to upload it online, I shrink it down a little. This makes sure that I have the highest resolution of my piece, discourages art theft (not that my art is worth stealing but it's why better artists than me do it), and of course it makes it easier for an image to load online. I never shrink it down smaller than 72 dpi, which is generally the standard for online images; however with my pics I find I am more often sending it out somewhere in the 100s or even the 200s, but as long as its shrunk down it's okay. Of course if it's shrunk down too much it will be fuzzy but if yo start out with a good resolution you won't have to worry about that.
Just set your "navigation" window to 100% so that you can see an estimation of how big the image is in real life. Then go to "image size" and edit down the resolution until it's a good size for the internet.
Walk through time. I just downloaded your image here, but it not only took forever to load; it took forever to save, which is a good clue that it's way too large for the internet. Currently, your image is around 10 by 7 inches, with a resolution even higher than I remembered--600 dpi. Way too large for the internet. In order to shrink it own, I open the navigator window and set it on 100%, like I said. Then I open up your "image size" window from the "image" menu and, with all three options selected (scale styles, restrain proportions, and resample image) I shrink down the dpi. Before my eyes I can see the image shrink down to a smaller size, and I can decide how small is too small, how big I want it, etc. Voila! That's how you do it.
Another tip: when saving your art for your portfolio it is good to save it as a lossless, high-quality file type like PNG or, as I'm lately learning, TIFF. However, for the internet you should submit it as a JPEG, which is much smaller and easier for the internet to handle.

You learn with each new image. That's what art's really all about: learning to get better and better.

Wow, very nice. I see no problem with the lineart at all! It looks very crisp and clean.
Yeh, maybe stop worrying so much about getting it just right, and relax with it. It makes the process more enjoyable. ^^
But he's very interesting. I may read more about him. Great job and congrats on making the deadline

Yeah, I believe in helping them when they sincerely need help, but we shouldn't do everything for them or treat them as if they're bound to break at any given time. I know I wouldn't like that.

Especially when I get complete strangers stopping and asking me what happened. I'm half tempted to say I got on the bad end of a bear fight. Lols!

I even saw a blind guy on my campus and bus a few times. He managed quite well on his own; he didn't even use a seeing dog. Just used this long stick and waved it around to know where he was going.

Of course. That is what was normal for him so it's easy for him to get around that way.
