Description

When Angela was born, Malachi and Joanna were as over the moon as Reid was. They were especially gratified to hear that he'd named his little girl specifically in his grandmother's honor, the only worthy grandmother. The only differences are the newborn Angela's middle name is Lydia, and her hair is more reddish-orange due to her mother's deep red hair; Queen Angela was more of a light chestnut.

But the family resemblance is strong enough, especially in future years, and the new princess is absolutely beautiful in her own way.

Of course, Reid let Malachi and Joanna hold the baby for a little while and quietly gush over her. Tallis and Ann were just as smitten with their granddaughter, and Romulus knows for a fact Tad, the maternal grandpa, would have been overjoyed.

Then Reid made the Windwillows a little proposition: "How would you like to be Angela's godparents?"

You can figure out the answer.

Then Reid and Lara were blessed with two mighty fine boys, and I can assure you there was no lack of love and attention on all sides of the family.

The kids never made a big deal out of having someone of an entirely different species for a godparent. They didn't see what the big deal was to begin with. Malachi and Joanna were always so warm and loving and fun, with excellent advice, so that was all that mattered. Malachi himself taught Troy a few things about chivalry.

And this shows the Windwillows have officially conquered their own prejudice against humans. The barrier between them and the Lactantiuses is at last gone for good.

If you think Lottie Drummond is prejudiced toward black people and biracial couples, I needn't tell you how she feels about fauns, just about any living, breathing non-human creature. The good news is that most of the prejudice against non-human creatures in the rest of Daire is gone (most, you understand) and so the majority of people see Lottie as just plain nuts.

The Windwillows have more respect than ever, and Malachi's success as an actor really came in his favor, on top of his faithful service in the Church. More people see him for the kind, gentle soul he is and realize how unfair they were to him all those years.

Now Kaylee gets to know him better and yet another of her mother's erroneous teachings is about to be thrown away.

He wasn't there when she first met the Wiles, but he heard all about that little episode with Cecily and Mason, and he was most certainly there when Nero blew a gasket. As you saw in that last image, he very sarcastically "thanks" Nero under his breath.

Reid and Lara have gone ahead to see about Nero, Mason, and some of the other kids who got scared off. Malachi and Joanna have promised to keep an eye on Troy and Kaylee and help cheer Kaylee up a bit if possible.

Malachi approaches Kaylee the soft, mild way Little Creek approaches Spirit in Stallion of the Cimarron: "Steady, steady. I'm not going to hurt you. Nice and easy."

And yes, Kaylee had seen a few of his shows and heard some of his songs before. Lottie never cared for him (take a wild guess why) but Philip at least appreciated his talent, and all but one of Kaylee's sisters liked him, too. So, the faun's face is already familiar, but this is the first time Kaylee has seen it this close.

She's heard plenty about the Lactantiuses, Wiles, Windwillows, and Byrnes. Now she has the chance to really get to know these people, courtesy of sharing a classroom with Prince Troy along with Troy's little knack for making new friends.

Most kids left Kaylee alone, partly because they knew Faith would come after them in a snap otherwise, and Philip didn't take too kindly to bullies, either. At least Kaylee got to play with a few kids here and there, though she wasn't overly chummy with any of them. The teachers liked Kaylee well enough because she was essentially the only Drummond pupil who took her studies seriously, so it all averaged out okay.

Then Prince Troy, whom she never expected to look her way at all, came up to her out of the blue and offered to be her friend (only if she wanted to, of course) and the rest was history.
