SOUCI FINAL APPRENTICE ASSIGNMENT: The apprentice needs to sneak up on Tacitus and take the purple sapphire from him while he's walking around the territory.

Stealth had never been one of Souci's strong suits.

In Shadow Empire, all apprentices were trained in a variety of skills, however being able to move around unnoticed was always of highest important. The territory was full of obstacles, marshes and forests, that for running or fighting made it difficult. It was wiser to remain hidden, avoiding the confrontation before it happened. A true Shadow Empire Gladiator could move throughout the forest unseen and unheard.

Souci was not a naturally quiet cat. Whilst he didn't speak often, his steps and voice easily echoed throughout the landscape. Could anyone blame him though? His hearing had been bad since birth, and no visits to Sara had fixed it. He didn't mind that much though; it was just when he needed to work that it became an issue.

Trying to complete his final exam, his frustration over this handycap bubbled underneath the hybrid's calm exterior. From his movements, Tacitus must have heard him several times already. Everytime he attempted to close the distance the tom reacted. At this rate Souci was never going to get close enough to get the gem...

His worrying was stopped promptly by more uneven ground, and the male slowed down to mavurer silently over the rocks. Something about this place seemed so familiar , however he couldn't place his paw on why - a feature must have changed or moved. Blue eyes darting around curiously, he instead found his ears catching onto a constant drumming in the distance...

"Better; but you gave away your position with your footsteps."

Blowing the dirt and leaves out of his face, Souci gave his mentor a cheeky smile. "Did you see how far I leaped this time though!" They had been practising hunting for a while now, and the apprentice felt a lot more confident in his skills. He hoped Aquila was proud too, despite the fact that he had failed at sneaking up on him every time. "You just gotta stop moving and I bet I could reach you," the apprentice chuckled.

His mentor shook his head slightly with a knowing expression before turning around to look off into the distance. What was it he could see? Pulling himself up from the ground, Souci stretched on the tips of his paws to try and catch a glimpse - however failed to get it in view before Aquila gestured for him to follow. It would have to be a surprise then!
Excitement was itching at Souci's paws when they finally arrived; a lively stream whose song played out for forest to hear. The young tom went to jump in, however Aquila held out a paw for him to wait.

"If you can't hear your own footsteps, then you need to make sure your prey can't hear them either," he rumbled, reminding Souci he was still in a training lesson, "What can you hear at the moment?"

Pardon? Souci looked at him in confusion, however tried to listen out for something special that he could be referring to.
"Um - there are birds and its a little windy I guess, and the river is quite loud too - "

Slow nodding from his mentor indicated that he had reached the right answer.
"When you are near sources of noise like this stream Souci, most animals won't be able to hear your approach. You just need to make sure you aren't seen. Now, lets try that hunting crouch again."

Staring wide eyed over the edge, the tom withheld a gasp. The river had gone down so much since he had last been here as a cub! What had once reach up the bank now rested down below large stone walls; however it still gave the clear, powerful sound of life. It was just what he needed to close the distance between him and his leader! With a small smile Souci worked his way down towards the water's surface.
Becoming a Gladiator now seemed within his grasp.
