[ PHYSICAL TRAITS ]

[Cub] Fur: Fluff cub fur
Covered in cub fluff, this cub resembles a typical big cat cub. The only difference are in the fur around the neck, which is more dense, and towards his tail. Resembling the tails of some lion hybrids like ligers, Nereus's tail tapers at the end.
[Adult]: Varying thickness across body.
Nereus fur resembles that of a lion/cougar across his body, if not slightly longer. He grooms it to keep it streamlined as he believes first impressions are of utmost importance to be ready for. Even at his tail tip, where typically the fur is longer, it remains short and so his tail tapers. His neck and lower chest is where it gets longer, but instead of growing into a mane it maintains its colour and patterns to Nereus frustrations. His tries his best to style it around so it matches the rest of him but it is still noticeable and definitely thicker than the rest of his pelt.

[Cub] Body Type: Cub legs and long tail
Nereus is a cub so most of his defining features in body shape aren't visible yet. His form is therefore typical of a short stumpy cub with chubby legs and big paws. His ears peak slightly at the top, but where this is cub fluff or not is yet to be seen. Whilst not because of his body type, it is worth noting that his tail appears to taper at the end. Its actual thickness is slightly more than a lion's tail.
[Adult]: Cougar build with extra height
Nereus is a lanky cat which strongly resembles a tall cougar, having the additional height towards a lion but not the bulk to fill it out. He can seem a bit disproportioned for that reason, with a seemingly long neck, but the low built chest of a snow leopard that narrows back up to his hips. This is why he has less stamina than some. Whilst not because of his body type, it is worth noting that his tail appears to taper at the end. Its actual thickness is slightly more than a lion's tail.

[Cub] Scent: Milk scent
Typical of all cubs, he carries the scent of his mother and the typical milk scent that goes with feeding from her. This scent will fade as he is weaned off the milk, however until he leaves the nursery he will carry the smell of his mother the strongest.
[Adult]: Mineral and Rain Water
Whilst not a fan of the closed in nature of caves, Nereus carries the scent of water from them from where he collects his rock collection from. These wide open plateaus and rivers/lakes are soothing to his claustrophobia (adult trait) and so he likes to spend time here often. In addition, whilst ice empire is not the hottest empire, it is also nice to lie on the rocks and water to cool down after a day out working.

A soft spoken voice, but still holding a measure of confidence. Often happily and jokingly spoken to family and others in the empire, he can be quite critical of those in other empires and this can come across quite clearly in his tone (EXAMPLE: [link] ).

Pelt Markings:
Symetrical markings on both sides of his body; Nereus has a pale base and white belly and hindlegs. Across his back and head he carries his mother's multi-tone pelt as it switches to dark grey, and along his spine and tail it transistions to a blonde tone. It is in these areas that all of nereus's rossets are, however none of them are filled.

[Cub] Mannerisms:

-- Expressions: He is perhaps most expressive though through his ears. All the traits mentioned below aren't as obvious compared to this. All cats express through their ears, however he always thought it was important to look interested and engaged so he would always put extra effort into it. Now it has seeped into his other expressions to his dismay.
He generally bares an attentive or awe-inspired expression due to his curiosity; though his neutral resting expression isn't grumpy either. His frown is closer to that of a pout, and his teasing expression is closer to a sneer.
-- Gait: He will keep his paws close together, even when walking - which makes him wobble all over the path since he is a cub.
-- Posture: Nereus sits and stands upright, conveying his interest in the world around him. He doesn't often cower unless taken by surprise, so could be considered as a brash cub even though he would never go against rules. This good posture comes from his desire to impress his parents and others around him.

[ PERSONALITY ]

Key Traits:

[Studious, Academic] - "Shh, this is important!"
CUB: Nereus loves to learn new facts and information about the world. His parents and even his older siblings seem to know so much after all, so why can't he? He would be the kind of cub to follow his parents or any baby-sitter around and pester them with questions on anything that catches his interest. He takes this very serious, and is someone interrupts him in his pestering you can expect a pouting face - although he is hypocritical in this regard as he will interrupt others to ask questions himself. He isn't lazy and if he finds out something that could affect him for the better or worst, he will take that information to heart and follow up on it.

[Focused, Attentive] - *super intense stare*
CUB: Story time, being told off for trying to sneak out, or just rock hunting; this cub does what he does with absolute concentration and stupid amounts of seriousness for a cub that is hard to take seriously in return. This isn't limited to intellectual events as he wants to get engaged in events that happen with his family - but to the fullest. Hence, the absolute concentration. This can go too far to the point where he will ignore someone else, but with enough pestering he will tear his concentration way to look at you with his little frustrated cub eyes.

[Passionate, Engaging] - "I know! I heard one of the patrolly cats talking about..."*
CUB: Nereus is one of those cubs that if you get him talking on a subject he knows about, he will talk and talk some more. He loves discussing matters, and won't do small talk for long before jumping into something he overheard someone mentioning. Need a cub in case your plans go wrong? Take Nereus. He's not the kind to lie, but he would try his best to cover everyone's reasons with conviction before pleading with big eyes for forgiveness. This is one of his traits that he isn't as aware of, and instead comes across more impulsively in conversation. He isn't a talkative cub so when he does get in the zone it can be quite a shock if the individual on the other end doesn't know him that well and had assumed he was shy.

  [Curious, Inquisitive] - "Wait, really?"
CUB: As you might have gathered from the traits above, Nereus loves to ask questions and learn about the world; however, this can stray beyond academic purposes. Sometimes it is on mundane and unimportant matters that he persists; like that kid that always asks "why". Sometimes it is on personal matters that can lead to him being too nosy and annoying those around him. Mention something in passing and he could always bring it up again later. As a cub he doesn't fully understand that there is a point which is too far. He will likely learn that though as he matures into an apprentice; however this excitement in even small things means that the base curiosity will likely continue to pop up as long as he feels he doesn't know something.

  [Blunt, Direct] - "That's a bit stupid."
CUB: Nereus can be a bit tactless in his speech. He wants to do the best and holds others to his high standards, and whilst he wouldn't intentionally say something nasty to those he loved, he might still convey his true feelings on the matter through brute honesty. Sometimes it is impulsive and just happens for better or for worse; sometimes it is on purpose because he feels strongly on a matter. Having a small cub tell you his opinion like it’s fact can get annoying, but Nereus does have the best intentions and wishes to share his insight. He is more brutally honest with his peers than adult cats as he views adult cats as his source of wisdom, so they can't be wrong otherwise what he knows is wrong.

CUB: Being part of a big family means that from the beginning Nerus is able to socialise and enjoy the company of others. That stop him however relishing the peace and quiet of the nursery when others are out as well. He changes depending on the situation he is in, wanting to take most opportunities on either ends of the spectrum. For Nereus specifically as a cub, this means he loves to be around his family, and is happy to be around the rest of the empire; however once he gets back to the nursery he crashes. He'll seek out company to support those he loves and being alone for long periods of time however will start to bring up feelings of loneliness. In contrast, having short periods of time alone or going out with just a few close friends he thrives the most socially.
Some consistent traits which he shares with other ambiverts includes: more reluctance to talk to strangers compared to family, can both listen solely and hold a conversation; and adapting volume dependant on the other cat.

  [Judging, Critical] - "Why are *they* here?"
CUB: Not the most prominent trait, but since he has such a large family and is part of a family-orientated empire; seeing someone new is odd. Not necessarily a bad thing, but to Nereus he has only seen a small part of the world and that part of the world is good to him. Strangers aren't part of that world so what does that make them? Hence, the small cub can get defensive and protective over matters a lot easier. Not that it has much of an impact since he is still a cub; a fluffed up small cat is only so intimidating. That doesn't mean however that he can't come out with something every now and again that deserves a reprimand.

  [Negitive, Worried] - "But if they are that big, what if a bird tries to pick me up and fly off?"
CUB: As you may have gathered from the above traits, Nereus loves to learn about matters and generally feels safest in his empire. However, this means that with matters that he either doesn't fully understand (due to his age), or matter which he just doesn't know about yet - he tends to assume the worst. This can include subjects like the hunters (and why they do what they do) and some of the more violent empires. His mind rationalizes that if it is something people don't like to talk about (aka he hasn't heard about it yet) or if it is something external to what he knows as good (his empire and family), then there must be something bad about it. This exaggerated worrying can normally be soothed either by learning about the matter at hand (long-term solution,) or for more tricky matter just being around his family (short-term solution).

  [Dependant, Reliant] - "But why do you have to go out?"
CUB: Nereus can be needy, not uncommon for a cub, however it is perhaps a bit more obvious in him than some. Specially when he is anxious about something, he heavily relies on others for the answers to his questions and reassurance. Without them? As a cub he'd be a lot more reclusive, and he is somewhat aware of this. Hence, when he needs help he can be quite insistent and not leave your side. This tiny cub will even attempt to hide around your legs if he is really scared or nervous.

Views:
CUB: The first thing that will catch your eye is, well, not much. To a stranger Nereus is a pretty average cub; neither super loud or abnormally shy. He will keep relatively polite for a cub and will likely just watch your mannerisms and just listen. Hence, he might seem reserved on first impressions, however this does not remain for long. After a point his ambiverted nature kicks in and replaces his caution around strangers.

For those in his empire who never have to go through this for long he is friendly. He views his empire mates all as trustworthy on the bases that they are part of the "best empire" and as such might approach someone random on the spur of the moment to help him with something. He still tries to keep a certain level of politeness as he wants to represent his parents and family well; however his curiosity does lead him into some of the standard cub mischief. How does he react when discovered? He is apologetic when in trouble, but will still try and explain his standing. He has an average standing on leaders and authority, as to be expected because his is a cub. This of course will change with time.

Around his family he longs for attention and love, but also thrives in reserved situations. Nereus wants to feel like he is loved, however also wants to prove that worth to himself as well. Hence, he plays and interacts with his parents and siblings like any cub - but also has a few other hobbies on the side that he does alone. One such hobbie is rock collecting, which considering the mountainous and rocky peaks in the distance, Nereus hopes he will be able to expand to include giant rocks in the future. How'd it start? It came from his questioning of the rocky nature of their dens and learning how "they protected them and would protect him too". Nereus deeply respects his parents and views them as his main source of knowledge and comfort.

But what about how he reacts to what he has heard about other factions? Nereus isn't actually that interest in other factions and hence can come across as prideful when asked about them. In particular, he thinks the hunters and their goal make no sense as clearly everyone in Ice Empire was living a great life. He likely would avoid sneaking out to see any foreign members for this reason, so won't get the chance to properly interact with them and cement his actual views until he is an apprentice.

Likes:
• Collecting Rocks - A soothing and simple task to set his mind to that doesn't stress him out
• Physical Contact - Reassures him that cats are there and supporting him
• Water - This strange thing moves in interesting ways that he always find fascinating
• Sight seeing - The best way to learn things about places you haven't been. Plus, its pretty.
• Discussions - Listening to these and sometimes engaging in them gets him excited as he learns much.

  Dislikes:

• Strangers - Ice is a close-knit empire so any new faces immediately stand out as different to what he trusts
• Debates - Whilst he loves talking, he hates having to repeatedly defend his view as it stresses him out. What if he is wrong?
• The unknown - You can't trust what people avoid or what you don't know
• The dark - Not serious, but related to his fear of the unknown. If he can't see, who knows what's there?
• Loneliness - Abandonment means the world he trusted wasn't what he thought, and that thought terrifies him.

-- QUIRKS
• Puffing up:
When angry instead of yelling he will puff up, instinctively trying to make himself bigger than he is. His fur will stand on end, particularly around his neck. Even his checks puff up if he is trying not to say something rude.

• Leg weaving:
When nervous as mentioned he likes to stick close to the legs of older cats. However, he doesn't do this to hide in their fur or under their belly but rather so he can pace around their legs until they notice him and help him out. It is a way for outputting his nervous energy whilst also seeking out comfort.

• Running Water obsession:
When around running water Nereus will unusually get distracted. He finds the way the light on it changes mesmerizing and will pad it and play with it until picked up and instructed to focus.

• Rock collecting:
As mentioned Nereus collects rocks as it is a task which he can focus on without excessive worrying. He enjoys it as he views rocks as important parts of the world and the fact that there are so many different rock types is amazing to this curious cat. He is most reserved whilst out collecting.

History:
In the Autumn of 43BC Angel and Rue had a litter of Six cubs, likely their last, to contribute to their large loving family in Ice Empire. Amidst these cubs, a male called Nereus began his life as any cub would: with a deep attachment to his parents and family. The close nature of the family meant that he knew he could trust them when it came for them to start playing outside of the nursery.
This introduced him to a wide, new world that he hadn't anticipated in the security of his family. It was scary but he felt calmer and more prepared once he learnt about the different objects. This started his tendency to inquire, question and investigate much of what is available to him - even the mundane things. For a cub even they had that own special features!
As he matured from a newborn with his curious but cautious nature, these traits continued to develop.

He will keep relatively polite for a cub and will likely just watch your mannerisms and just listen. Hence, he might seem reserved on first impressions, however this does not remain for long. After a point his ambiverted nature kicks in and replaces his caution around strangers.

For those in his empire who never have to go through this for long he is friendly. He views his empire mates all as trustworthy on the bases that they are part of the "best empire" and as such might approach someone random on the spur of the moment to help him with something. He still tries to keep a certain level of politeness as he wants to represent his parents and family well; however his curiosity does lead him into some of the standard cub mischief. How does he react when discovered? He is apologetic when in trouble, but will still try and explain his standing. He has an average standing on leaders and authority, as to be expected because his is a cub. This of course will change with time.

Around his family he longs for attention and love, but also thrives in reserved situations. Nereus wants to feel like he is loved, however also wants to prove that worth to himself as well. Hence, he plays and interacts with his parents and siblings like any cub - but also has a few other hobbies on the side that he does alone. One such hobbie is rock collecting, which considering the mountainous and rocky peaks in the distance, Nereus hopes he will be able to expand to include giant rocks in the future. How'd it start? It came from his questioning of the rocky nature of their dens and learning how "they protected them and would protect him too". Nereus deeply respects his parents and views them as his main source of knowledge and comfort.

But what about how he reacts to what he has heard about other factions? Nereus isn't actually that interest in other factions and hence can come across as prideful when asked about them. In particular, he thinks the hunters and their goal make no sense as clearly everyone in Ice Empire was living a great life. He likely would avoid sneaking out to see any foreign members for this reason, so won't get the chance to properly interact with them and cement his actual views until he is an apprentice.

Likes:
• Collecting Rocks - A soothing and simple task to set his mind to that doesn't stress him out
• Physical Contact - Reassures him that cats are there and supporting him
• Water - This strange thing moves in interesting ways that he always find fascinating
• Sight seeing - The best way to learn things about places you haven't been. Plus, its pretty.
• Discussions - Listening to these and sometimes engaging in them gets him excited as he learns much.

  Dislikes:

• Strangers - Ice is a close-knit empire so any new faces immediately stand out as different to what he trusts
• Debates - Whilst he loves talking, he hates having to repeatedly defend his view as it stresses him out. What if he is wrong?
• The unknown - You can't trust what people avoid or what you don't know
• The dark - Not serious, but related to his fear of the unknown. If he can't see, who knows what's there?
• Loneliness - Abandonment means the world he trusted wasn't what he thought, and that thought terrifies him.

-- QUIRKS
• Puffing up:
When angry instead of yelling he will puff up, instinctively trying to make himself bigger than he is. His fur will stand on end, particularly around his neck. Even his checks puff up if he is trying not to say something rude.

• Leg weaving:
When nervous as mentioned he likes to stick close to the legs of older cats. However, he doesn't do this to hide in their fur or under their belly but rather so he can pace around their legs until they notice him and help him out. It is a way for outputting his nervous energy whilst also seeking out comfort.

• Running Water obsession:
When around running water Nereus will unusually get distracted. He finds the way the light on it changes mesmerizing and will pad it and play with it until picked up and instructed to focus.

• Rock collecting:
As mentioned Nereus collects rocks as it is a task which he can focus on without excessive worrying. He enjoys it as he views rocks as important parts of the world and the fact that there are so many different rock types is amazing to this curious cat. He is most reserved whilst out collecting.

History:
In the Autumn of 43BC Angel and Rue had a litter of Six cubs, likely their last, to contribute to their large loving family in Ice Empire. Amidst these cubs, a male called Nereus began his life as any cub would: with a deep attachment to his parents and family. The close nature of the family meant that he knew he could trust them when it came for them to start playing outside of the nursery.
This introduced him to a wide, new world that he hadn't anticipated in the security of his family. It was scary but he felt calmer and more prepared once he learnt about the different objects. This started his tendency to inquire, question and investigate much of what is available to him - even the mundane things. For a cub even they had that own special features!
As he matured from a newborn with his curious but cautious nature, these traits continued to develop.
