Everyone, at least once in their life, has done something that is beyond their strength and capability. The reason why we do it is either we want to prove ourselves, show off, or impress. We muster every bit of strength in a frivolous act in order to complete the task to show that it isn't taking much effort when it really is. When someone else does it and is successful, you put on a blasé, even spreading exaggerations that you've done that before or did something more extreme.

Doing these reckless acts can humiliate us if we fail, harm us, and if it's dangerous enough, kill us. I'm not afraid to admit that I've done things that are beyond my capability just to show off or just do it because I felt like it. A lot of these situations ended up with not only an embarrassing failure, but an important lesson. Don't act like someone you're not, the power that you are yet to reach, or the talents you are yet to discover. That there is only one of you and that you can't copy someone nor can they copy you.

Lincoln's advice helped me see this. He helped me see that I am only me and that it's okay that I can achieve far and wide. He helped me understand that it's okay to receive help from others when we need it. There is not one person I know that can handle one things by themselves without help. Everyone needs help with things that are beyond our ability no matter who we are or how great we are. We need to learn how to appreciate the help of others in the face of a difficult situation no matter how much we want all the glory. We can't do one thing by ourselves all the time. We can't always be independent. We can't always pretend we don't need help. Learn to accept our mistakes, laugh at our mistakes, and learn from our mistakes.
