Description
Say What?Rip awoke with her head aching only slightly. She guessed that whatever it was that Madam Pomprefy had given her must have worked. She gingerly touched her head, and felt that it was wrapped in bandages. Did Larxene bash her head that bad? Rip wondered how long she had been out. She just hoped that she wouldn't get a lot of homework for missing out on her classes.
"Rip!" she heard Ginny squeal when she crashed through the doors of the Hospital Wing followed by Hermione who looked relieved to see that she was awake and all right.
Ginny ran to her bedside, and Rip scooted up, smiling. "Hey guys."
"How's your head?" Ginny asked. She didn't seem as badly hurt as Rip, just a few scratches and bruises, even some burns, but nothing more.
"It's all right. How long have I been out?"
"Just a day, the medicine Madam Pomprefy gave you can work wonders on head injuries," Hermione commented, joining the redhead's side. She suddenly frowned. "You do know that both of you will get in trouble, right?"
"But we didn't start it!" Rip exclaimed.
"Yeah! It's Larxene's fault! She provoked us!" Ginny added, and Rip nodded in agreement.
Hermione sighed. "That still won't get you out of trouble! You still started a fight. The Headmistress might be coming to see you soon. She wants to talk to everyone who was involved."
Rip swallowed. She couldn't believe she had let herself get into trouble on her first day of her school year. Way to go, Rip...
"Did she talk to you?" Rip asked Ginny,
The girl nodded, shifting her weight to one foot. "Yeah, it wasn't that bad, she didn't really yell or anything, she just wanted to know what happened and why. She gave me a month of clean up duty though."
That had relaxed Rip slightly. She was a bit nervous having to talk to the Headmistress. What if she got expelled? What if she would have to return to that horrible orphanage? She was almost eighteen, and they would kick her out once she was. She would be living out on the streets!
Seeing the vampire fiddle with the bedsheets in nervousness, Hermione laid a comforting hand on Rip's. "Don't worry about it, I'm sure it won't be that bad like Ginny said."
Rip could only smile slightly up at her friend, thanking her.
"Larxene and her two goons are in the other Hospital Wing," Ginny said with a smirk, waving her wand that let out yellow sparks. "Beat 'em up good we did."
Rip laughed and Hermione could only shake her head in disapprovement, but a smirk was on her lips.
Suddenly, Ginny beamed. "Oh! I almost forgot!" she dug into her sweater's pockets and pulled out three bags that said Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. "You'll love these, Rip," Ginny said, handing them each a bag.
Hermione had to bite her tongue from telling Ginny off for bringing food into the Hospital Wing without permission as she accepted a bag. Rip examined her bag, pulling out a green bean. "What do they mean by Every Flavor?"
Ginny popped a brown one with dots. "They mean every flavor..." she suddenly made a face. "I think I got the vomit flavor..."
LIEbe
Tossing over in her bed for the millionth time, Rip sighed in frustration. She hadn't been able to fall asleep for three hours and it was driving her crazy! The thought of having to talk to the Headmistress had overecome her with nefvousness all over again. Even though she heard straight from Ginny that it wasn't all that bad, it still made her fear of being expelled.
Maybe I should have contoled my temper better... she thought to herself, staring up at the ceiling. But she insulted your parents, a dominant voice pointed out, and Rip squeezed her eyes shut. So what? I never knew them. They abandoned me.
Sighing again at her thoughts, Rip rolled over to her side, trying to stop thinking. But she couldn't. No matter how much she tried, her thoughts always drifted to her upcoming conversation with the Headmistress and about her parents. She always wondered what her parents were like and why they gave her to an orphanage. She even thought that they might be just like her, a vampire. How else could she have gotten to where she was now because of what she is.
Creeeeaaaakkkkk...
The sudden sound startled her out of her thoughts, and Rip's attention was fully on the door that had creaked open. But she didn't see anyone in the darkness of the night, not even the moon could provide enough light.
"Wh... Whose there?" Rip asked, but there was no answer.
The door just stayed ajar. Thinking that it was only the wind and that it was just an old door, Rip settled back in her bed, trying to catch some sleep. But then she heard footsteps behind the door. The thought of those things Madam Pomprefy had called Shadows that had attacked her when she came to Olympus Academy scared her. She thought that they came back for her, searching endlessly until they found her. But then she remembered that they glided in the floor instead of walking. Still, Rip tossed the covers over herself when she heard the door open wider and hid under it, peering throuh the gap she left in the blankets for her to see. There she saw a silhouetted figure walk into the room, heading towards her in light footsteps. The person just paused and she felt eyes burning through the sheets as if trying to find out if she was asleep or not. Then the person stepped forward again and reached out to Rip.
With a swift move, Rip grabbed the person's hand instead, sending them tumbling onto the ground with a thud. She straddled the person and raised a fist. "Who are you?"
"If you do not remove yourself from me, I guarantee you that you will receive six months worth of detention."
"P-Professor Hellsing?" Rip stuttered.
"No, the Boogeyman."
Rip peered closer to the woman's face, squinting to see if it really was the Professor.
"If a goodnight kiss is what you're expecting, you are absolutely wrong."
Rip blinked and quickly removed herself from the older woman, shyly offering her hand to help the woman up, but the woman got up on her own, straightening her clothes.
"What are you doing here, Professor?" Rip asked, knowing that if she were alive, she would be blushing madly.
"Checking on you, what else?"
"You were...checking on me?"
Even though it was dark, Rip swore she could tell the woman rolled her eyes.. "Don't think I did it out of concern for you, I only did it on the Headmistress's orders."
"Oh..." Rip muttered, still thinking about the position they were in just a few moments ago. She cleared her throat, shaking the thought away, knowing she shouldn't be thinking that way.
"Well, since I see that you are fine, I'll be off now, goodnight Ms. Winkle," the Professor said, walking away.
"W-wait!" Rip called, and the woman turned around.
"Yes?"
"I...sorry...about...er..."
"Forget about it," with that, she walked away again, exiting the room and closing the door securely behind her. But she couldn't follow the Professor's orders, she couldn't forget.
LIEbe
"SHE SAID WHAT?!"
"SHH!" Rip hissed when the students in the lunch room gave them odd looks.
Ginny lowered her head, eyes still wide with shock. Hermione was leaning close too, wanting to hear every bit of it.
"She said, 'if a goodnight kiss is what you're expecting, than you rare absolutely wrong," Rip said, and Ginny couldn't help but grin. Hermione on the other hand shook her head and resumed eating.
"She totally hit on you!" Ginny said.
Rip looked over to the teachers' table and when she caught eye with the Professor they were talking about, she bowed her head low, picking at her food.
"She did not," Hermione said before taking a bit out of her salad. "Professor Hellsing doesn't seem like the type to do such a thing."
"Hermione, you're a bookworm, and here you are judging someone by their cover!" Ginny said.
"I am not!" Hermione hissed. "I'm simply stating a fact that Professor Hellsing is too loyal to the rules of the school and her job to be flirting with a student!" she turned to Rip who was still picking at her food, but not eating it. "Aren't I right, Rip?"
Was she really flirting with me? No...she couldn't have...she just...
"Rip?"
"Huh? What?"
Hermione raised an eyebrow at her while Ginny just grinned. "I asked if I was right."
"Yeah, sure..." Rip answered, trailing off again as she resumed picking at her food.
The trio had to split up after lunch since Rip was headed to Powers which was assigned to vampires and elementals on Wednesdays. She was eager to take Powers after hearing what they do in Powers. Powers was when the students were only allowed to use their abilities. The class prepares them when they need it most and to learn how to use them to defend or attack.
Powers took place outside. There was a big pool on one side, and a large torch burning brightly on another side. The weather outside was perfect too. Even with the sun out, it didn't burn her. She looked around at the students surrounding her and found them hissing at the sun, trying to stay out of it's rays. In one group, Rip noticed that one of the girls was one of Larxene's goons. She glared at her from across the field unable to believe that they were in the same class.
"Stop being such cowards!" boomed Professor Blitz to the hissing students. "Olympus Academy is protected by a barrier made by Zeus so that vampires won't get burned alive. Same goes for werewolves except it disables the moon from transforming them. Now, on to the subject. This class group should only be assigned to vampires and elementals, so if you are not, then get the hell out and go fix your schedule."
Students looked about themselves, wondering if anyone in the group wasn't a vampire or a elemental, but none of them moved. "I want you to all separate yourselves from vampires and elementals. Vampires, stepped aside to the right and elementals, step to the left."
The students did as they were told, splitting themselves. "Since you elementals have four different kinds of powers, I want salamanders in that corner, gnomes in that one, undines there, and sylphs there," she said, pointing to each destination in which the elementals separated.
The undines stood at the pool of water, the salamanders at the torch, and the sylphs and gnomes standing in an open space. "For the vampires, I want you to pair up and find out if you have the ability to perform telepathy. Not every vampire can do it, so don't get all pissed off if you can't do it. Just look directly into your partner's eyes, concentrate hard and block out every thought, every sound, and focus. This is only the basics. Once you've mastered telepathy, you won't have to look directly into a person's eyes."
When Professor Blitz walked away go attend to the elementals, Rip looked around to find a partner. Everyone seemed to already know who they were going to be paired with because a majority of them were already taken. Then she saw one boy who stood by himself until he saw Rip and ran up to her.
"Guess we're gonna be partners, hey buckeroo? Heh, get it?"
Rip let out a fake laugh, glancing at the salamanders who were each pulling out strings of fire from the torch and creating shapes of them. The girl who had fought Ginny made a hand out of her fire and put it's middle finger up at Rip and laughed. Rip snarled at her and turned back to her partner, trying to hold herself back from storming over the and beating that girl.
For the past five minutes, the lesson had gotten boring. It seemed like the boy she was partnered with wasn't even trying to concentrate. Instead he would say, 'You have nice eyes' or 'I wish this lesson will never end so that I can lose myself in your beautiful ocean eyes.' after two more minutes, Rip suggested through gritted teeth that they should switch to her trying telepathy. However, Rip found herself distracted when Professor Blitz came around to the vampires. She kept on glancing over to Rip, giving her glares for some reason as if de he really despised her. Trying to ignore the burning feeling of the woman's eyes, Rip tried her best to concentrate on telepathy. Block everything out...concentrate... But no matter how hard she tried, Rip couldn't break into the boy's mind. It was either that she didn't have the ability, or he was mentally strong.
"Alright ya twerps," the Professor said after she had checked her watch, "the period is over, now get to whatever you're supposed to do."
It was mostly the elemental students who were groaning as they began leaving the class and heading back to the school to head to Control Class.
"The symptoms of your powers overriding you can be great," Professor McGonagall said as she paced in front of the room of all the students. "You will feel a rush of adrenaline, exhilaration, more strength, and invincibility."
The students murmured amongst themselves, eager to feel what they were told. Professor McGonagall stopped pacing, giving them each stern looks. "If you do not keep you powers in check, then this will happen to you, and if you do do not fight it, then it will overcome you, giving you all those things. But..." the students were now at the edge of their seats, ready to hear more, "it is not as great as it may seem. Losing control of your powers can either drive you insane, or even kill you."
Everybody was a bit shocked at the news, discussing the matter amongst themselves. Suddenly someone knocked on the door, causing everyone to fall silent. Professor allowed them to enter, and Professor Hellsing opened the door, striding over to the teacher and spoke to the older woman in a low voice with their backs to the students. Professor McGonagall turned around, as did the Humanology teacher, looking straight at Rip.
"Ms. Winkle," she said, "the Headmistress wishes to see you."
Now it was pin drop silent. Rip nervously looked about before getting up and walking out of the class with Professor Hellsing with the class staring at them. She followed the woman two paces behind, nervousness growing with each step. She guessed that now was the time that she had her little talk with the Headmaster about the fight. Was she going to get expelled? No, she can't be. Ginny was in the fight too, and she wasn't expelled. Ginny was doing clean up duty for a month, but she didn't know what Larxene and her goons were going to do. What could her punishment be?
Before she knew it, they were standing in front of the Headmistress's office. It looked like every other room with it's wooden door and brass handle. Professor Hellsing raised a hand, and knocked on the door, opening it when they heard a come in. She allowed Rip to enter first before following and shutting the door behind them.
The room was larger than the classrooms in the school. The floors were checkered and the walls adorned with portraits and paintings. Against one wall was a big shelf that was filled with hundreds of books, ranging from all colors and sizes. The ceiling was decorated with symbols and words written in Greek until they formed a circle with a foot with wings in the middle. She had seen that sign somewhere in the school, but couldn't remember where and what it meant. At the other end of the room was a desk, stacked with a few papers and a pen on top. Big windows lined the wall behind the desk where the Headmistress was standing, staring out of it.
The brown haired woman turned around, and held a hand out towards the chair in front of her desk. "Have a seat."
Rip did as she was told, awkwardly walking to the chair before she sat on it. Professor Hellsing still stood by the door, but she didn't dare to look back at her. She was still on about that awkward situation they were in at the hospital, and whenever she would think about it, she found her throat dry or either caught daydreaming. It was embarrassing to sum it all up.
"I understand that you got into a fight with Ms. Elenar, Ms. Durum, and Ms. Banks," the Headmistress said, staring out the window where it provided a view of the destroyed courtyard where Rip and Larxene fought.
Rip swallowed hard, and managed to squeak out a, "yes Ma'am,"
"There are rules in every school if you are not aware of that, and breaking them deserves punishment," she turned around, raising an eyebrow at Rip. "Or did you not read the handbook?"
"No Ma'am..."
The Headmistress strode over to her desk, but didn't sit at it. Instead she just gave Rip a long look, making her uncomfortable to the point she bowed her head in shame. "Raise your head, it is a sign of weakness," she paused. "You're not weak now, are you?"
Rip lifted her head, trying to look back at the woman just as hard. "No Ma'am."
She swore she saw a smile flicker upon her lips. "As for your punishment..."
"You're not going to expel me, are you?" Rip asked urgently. She didn't want to leave this school, it was her new home and she had friends here unlike back at the orphanage.
Now a smile appeared in clear view. "No. Normally I would at such a degree but after hearing everyone's story and the bystanders', I have come to a conclusion where I shall...lessen the punishment a bit."
Rip relaxed at this. As long as she wasn't going to get expelled, then she was absolutely fine.
"You will be serving detention with Professor Hellsing for a month."
Her eyes widened. Detention. For a month. With Professor Hellsing?
