Description
Wise Words from a Wise Man"You can't blame gravity for falling in love." Albert Einstein
I absentmindedly traced my finger across my lips, remembering almost actually kissing the hero. I still couldn't believe that I had actually done that! I remembered how soft and smooth her skin was. The little gasp she gave when my lips made contact with her skin...
I shook my head. I was getting perverted thoughts lately! I brought shot glass up to my lips and knocked it back, swallowing the alcohol, and letting it burn down my throat.
"Hey Arty!" I called to the potbellied bartender behind the counter. "Pour me another!"
"You got it hot stuff!"
Arthur, Arty for short, was the bartender of this small pub I always went to when I wanted a little free time or just a couple of drinks. No one really knew who I was here since I wore enough makeup to disguise my pale green complexion. Now that I think about it, the dim lighting in the bar practically hid everyone's skin color. Most looked too down in the dumps to be even paying attention to others but their drinks.
Arty poured me another glass and leaned forward on the counter as I knocked it back. "So Glare, what's got you daydreaming in outer space?"
Arty called me Glare because that's what I had given him when I first walked into the bar and he asked my name. I never got around to giving him an alias. He always called everyone everything else besides their names anyways.
I smirked as my thoughts trailed back to Kimmie and the kiss. "Oh, you know, I did something daring as usual."
The man pursed his lips in thought. "Lemmie think..." he snapped his fingers as a smile came upon his lips as did a theory. "You stole a pretty girl's puppy, acted like you saved it from being ran over by a car, then you got the girl."
I laughed. "Not even close!"
Arty was the only man outside my family who knew about my sexuality. I had actually told him by accident when I was frustrated and drunk, and the next time I came after my confession, he asked me if I got any girls lately. Who could resist this body anyways?
"I almost kissed this girl," I told him.
His peppered eyebrows rose. "Ah, becoming wilder now aren't you?"
"Hah! This girl been wild!"
We laughed and he poured me another drink. "So," he started, "is she a keeper?"
"Arty, you know that I don't 'keep' anybody."
He sighed and bent his head forward a bit so that his white hair was in full view. "You see this white hair? You'll be getting 'em too!" he stood straight again and gave me a look. "I was a ladies man just like you. Well, you're more like a ladies lady, but anyways, I never caught a keeper."
"Arty I-"
"Let me finish," he said. Usually I wouldn't allow anyone to cut me off like that, but Arty had grown into a father to me, and I respected him. "Love isn't a toy. You can't just play with it then throw it away once you're bored. You gotta appreciate it, and that was the mistake I made. I just threw love away, over and over. And look where I am now. So you've got to find her, Glare. Find her before it's too late or you'll end up like me. Old and lonely."
As I left the bar, I thought about what Arty had told me. He shared some advice from experience and I thought about my own life compared to his. Would I really become like him? Lonely and old until I died? But what about Kimmie? She wasn't exactly what I had planned to 'keep'. We were enemies after all, so it's practically impossible to be...in love with her.
What was it between us? Was it just playful flirting? It seemed like it, but could it turn into something more by accident? I hadn't actually thought about the risks that flirting with an enemy could do.
I let out a frustrated groan into the night air. "Damn it Kimmie! Look at what you've started!"
The next morning, I was awoken by loud banging on my door. I groaned and flopped over onto my other side, wanting to get back into the wonderful land of sleep. I didn't know why Dr. D was banging on my door when we didn't have any missions! At least not that I know of. I never really listened to him anyways.
"Shego!" I heard the annoying voice of my employer call. "You've got some visitors!"
"Go away!" I grumbled, pulling my pillow over my head. Ugh, why couldn't he just leave me alone! I knew I should have stayed at my apartment instead!
"Don't be like that Shego! They're your family!"
"I don't care!"
My eyes opened suddenly as I processed the words. Family?!
I jumped up from my bed, running to the bathroom to throw some water on my face and fix my hair and practically ran out of the room. Please don't be them! Please don't-
"UGH!" I was suddenly lifted off my feet as someone very strong with thick arms lifted me from behind, practically squeezing the life out of me.
"Good morning Shego!" a voice said happily.
"Hego!" I rasped. "If you don't let me go!"
"Oops sorry!"
My older brother put me back down and I sucked in a whole bunch of air and turned around and glared at him.
"Sometimes I forget how strong I am!" he said with a smirk as he flexed his arms.
I rolled my eyes at his oversized ego and peered past his big body and found my other brother, Mego, lounging on the couch like he owned the place.
"Stop being such a show off, Hego!" he said, and waved at me.
"Sis!" two voices chimed at the same time.
I was hugged and saw my twin brothers. I gaped at my brothers and when I had managed to pull away from my younger brothers, glared at them all.
"What the hell are you guys doing here?!" I shouted.
Dr. D had strode in with a tray of chocolate filled glasses. "Who wants coco moo?"
Everybody raised their hands and called out, "ME!"
I growled, ready to pull out my hair. "No coco moo!"
"Aw..." everyone said.
I paced before all of them with clenched fists, feeling the hot glow of my powers in them. I couldn't believe that they were here! Disturbing my sleep! Coming into my life again! And to do what? To mess it all up again!
"Now, you're going to tell me why the hell you all are here!" I demanded.
Everybody averted their eyes from mine and I only got heated up more. So they had the guts to come here but not look me in the eye? Pathetic! Really ridiculous! They were a bunch of punks!
"You guys are a bunch of annoying, pathetic, stupid-"
"I really don't appreciate you calling your brothers by those things, Gabrielle."
The familiar feminine voice behind me was enough to make my eyes widen, my heart stop, and hold my breath. There were only few people in the world who knew my real name, and my brothers haven't used our real names in years. But it wasn't just the name that had shocked me. It was the person who owned the voice. I was afraid to turn around. And mind you, I'm never afraid. I gulped and slowly turned my body that had suddenly gone stiff and saw her standing there with authority all over her. There was only one thought going through my head at that time, when I saw her.
Oh...my...God...
