The light of the moon illuminated her face as she stared out the window, absentmindedly touching her eyepatch as memories flashed through her mind. She took a deep breath, held it in for a while, then let it out. The pain still felt new, scarring her forever. Nightmares plagued her and she soon found herself in a routine of staying up until the first rays of the sun would gently grace her face, willing her to smile. Smile. She hadn't smiled in a long time.

A knock sounded on her door, and she jerked slightly from her trance. She was paranoid ever since the war, and every slight noise would startle her. Even the drop in temperature would make her keep an eye out for her servant, wondering if he was going to appear, poking his head out of the ceiling or fade through the walls. Appear he did not.

Integra did not need to turn around to find out who had entered her room. There were only two occupants of this manor anyway. The draculina joined the woman beside her, gazing out the window. Neither spoke. Nothing needed to be said anyway, this was sort of a routine for them. Integra would wake suddenly from a nightmare, stare out the window, then Seras would come in.

The draculina knew she didn't like talking about the events during the war or her nightmares, it would only cause her more pain, and so she kept quiet, not wanting to break the peaceful atmosphere around them. She didn't need to ask her if she had a nightmare, it was already obvious from the way she screamed, the blank look she had, and the perspiration that dotted her tan features.

Without warning, without a word, and without hesitation, Seras slipped her ungloved hand into Integra's. She enjoyed the warmth the woman gave her, the trust she showed, and her company that she knew would not last.
