I don't know when we started saying it, much less how, but I do know the reason why. She just didn't want me to do anything stupid. It was simple as that.

It was everyday without fail she would say it, just before leaving through the door.

"Don't do anything...?"

"Stupid," I would complete the routine.

Sometimes I would get the chance to say it to her, but it was mainly her job. Her job to make sure her little sister didn't do anything stupid like burning the house down. It was always up to the older sibling to watch over the younger no matter how much they hated us. There are days, of course, when we get along, and days when we don't. Every sibling go through these phases. It's only natural. Well, sometimes the tables can turn. Sometimes, which are rare, it's the younger sibling's job to watch out for the elder. Sometimes they need us.

Today again, she was leaving for work as I continued my writing, lost in my own fantasies. She would break my imaginary world just for this moment, just for our little routine that never failed.

"Don't do anything...?"

"Stupid," I would say. It came to me like an instinct, without breaking the flow of my hands that danced across the keyboard.

Even after all these years we still say it. Just to make sure neither of us did anything stupid.
