Description Jst another macro of some red water drops! lol im just testing

does anybody know how i get the macro to focus on the whole thing instead of just something...like if i have two small flowers...it blurs one out but makes the other one clear!

Hope you like this one
or find it interesting at least

macro is all about depth of field hehehe the higher the F stop the more of the subject will be in focus. The lower the less. As mentioned above in a lot of cases a tripod is needed its to your benefit if it can get fold low and even have a macro arm on it. I mostly hand shoot my macros but I've kind of practised till i am sick of macros as people will see in my gallery.

yeeeh i think ive kinda got the idea of the whole depth of field thingy lol i jst gotta practice a bit more and maybe see if i can borrow my boyfriends mini tripod hehe
thanks for that!

that looks great & with the flowers , maybe go between both of them & try to take the shot. I may not be great at this but try different angles and such ?

Do a photo merge with a macro lens? They all would be in focus, or take three photos and stitch away?

painting-with-light [2006-12-12 13:33:32 +0000 UTC]

I do like it and it is interesting. In order to focus on both flowers, they have to be in the same plane

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UnLeashed210 In reply to painting-with-light [2006-12-13 09:29:11 +0000 UTC]

wat do u mean by the same plane?
thanks for that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

painting-with-light In reply to UnLeashed210 [2006-12-13 10:14:20 +0000 UTC]

These are 2 definitions I found for the word 'plane' on internet:
1. A level or rectilinear surface, destitute of elevations or depressions; a curved surface cannot be plane because it is not rectilinear
2. A flat surface such that the shortest route between any two locations on the surface is entirely contained within the surface.

Your problem is being caused by the 'depth-of-field'. Normally a macro lens does not have a great depth-of-field (it can only focus on one distance), therefore in order to have all 3 flowers in full focus they have to be at equal distances from the lens, i.e. they have to lie within the same plane.

I hope this helps you. If you need further clarifications let me know. Good luck.

my boyfriend was sayin something about the depth of field
its really annoying tho coz i want the whole piccy in focus otherwise it wrecks the rest of it! lol
thanks again

Welcome Leash. That is the challenge in macro photography, getting your picture composed and in focus while keeping in mind the depth of field.

Sharpeshots [2006-12-12 12:26:31 +0000 UTC]

wonderful shot, macro lenses tend to have a very small depth of field i believe, so you might wanna open up your aperture, probably need a tripod as someone else mentioned.

if i recall correctly you have a rebel, should be pretty much the same as most cameras. I assume you have it in some sort of manual mode, it's usually one of the first options, it's measured in f-stops. hope this helps
If you're not sure, try looking up some tutorials.

I'm not too sure about macro lens,

but i would have thought you'd need a smaller f stop, to get a larger depth of field, but then you'll need a longer shutter time, and so more than likely need a tripod.

Cos you'll want to keep the ISO low, to keep the sharpness.

Might be completly wrong, but thats what i think..

yeh its really annoying me!!!
ill have to have a fiddle round with it...maybe find someone who has one and get them to teach me! i dunno heaps about the lenses and depth of field and stuff

i dont even know how to use all the functions on my camera lol! i have to do a course
thanks for that tho

FullRedAtom In reply to UnLeashed210 [2006-12-12 12:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Well from what i've learnt and read, if it is a larger aperture like f2.8 (the smaller the number the bigger the hole) As it is bigger you can have shorter shutter speeds because it takes in more light, but depth of feild is reduced/

Were as.. say.. F16 is much smaller, so you'd need a greater length of time on the shutter time, but you'd have a greater depth of field.

There are plenty of website and probably even soome tutorials on here, explaining the basics
