Description Note that this reference might be updated at any time.

Ikthala.
Born and raised in a clan lead by his father, Ik is extremely loyal to those he can trust. He's honorable, and lives/hunts by his own "honor code."
He still has a lot to learn, but he's always eager to do so. He's very interested in the humans. Their way of life, their speech, etc.
As a tech junkie, he's always tinkering with different things. And unlike the usual Predator, Ik is more comfortable in cooler climates.
His current "family" consists of the Huntress Nan'qu, and his hound companion "Patches."

Not to mention...if the Yaut'ja only see thermal waves, why do they have eyes? They wouldn't have eyes if that was the case. Instead, they would have nostril-like "Jacobson's Organs" to sense heat and mentally percieve it like an image. Rattlesnakes have those, and plus it would make more biological sense that way.

Uhm, not to be "that guy" but don't Snakes have eyes despite seeing in infrared? o.O You need eyes in order to SEE anything... Without 'em, they'd have to rely on echo-locate much like (I theorize) the Xenomorphs do.

Director1265 In reply to Tassos13 [2010-11-12 12:19:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, here's the thing about all that: Jacobson Organs (the thermal sensors snake use) don't just sense heat; they can sense where heat is emitting from and process that information precisely enough to create a (not-very-well-detailed) image. They aren't very useful in the daytime, except maybe as a little bit of an advantage for finding hidden prey, but when there is little or no light, snakes can use their Jacobson Organs as a second pair of eyes. Basically, they're like night-vision goggles.

In the case of the famous Predator, I have seen all the movies, and as far as I can tell, their vision is limited to nothing more than thermal imaging. In fact, I think they used some sort of lenses in their masks to enhance that vision by a few points. If they never once suggest that the Yaut'ja had human-like vision, then that must mean their eyes (which were very well seen in all the movies) were just about useless. If they seem to do just fine on thermal imaging alone, why do they even have eyes in the first place? I would think that maybe their "eyes" were actually just evolved Jacobson Organs that looked like eyes, but Hollywood never thinks about things that deeply. Not much of a Predator if you can't see your prey, wouldn't you agree? That's why I liked the Predalien so much from "AVP-R," because it looked almost exactly like what a bigger, better, faster, stronger, more biologically realistic and more awesome Yaut'ja could look like if Hollywood had a better imagination. Think about it: take the Predalien and give him a Predator outfit and tech and call him the Predator. Isn't that an awesome mental image or what? ...=^^= uh, not that the original Predator isn't already awesome...

When it comes to the Xenomorphs, they never really mention just how those guys percieve things. It could be echolocation, but creatures that echolocate naturally react slightly slower to make time to process the "images," and the Xenomorphs don't seem to do that. They could have one really big eyeball, but since they were redesigned in Alien 3, that idea wouldn't work anymore. Maybe it's got something to do with their sense of smell, or how they detect air pressure, body heat or maybe even the body's natural electric field. I can think of a dozen different ways the Xenomorphs "see," but since the Xenomorphs weren't really thought through as much as they could have been, I can never give you a definative answer to that one right now. See, the guys at Hollywood decided to make them eyeless, but they literally haven't come up with a way that they percieve their surroundings without eyes! I'm sure a few rather insignifigant people on the set came up with some ideas, but nothing has ever been official. I don't know, maybe they're just playing one big deadly game of Marco Polo!

hehehe...here's a cheezy little joke:

(Xenomorph stalks Ripley)

Burly-Manly Narrator: "In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream..."

Xenomorph: (at the top of his f**king lungs) "MARCO!!!!!!!!!!!"

Uhm, I don't want to make you feel anything negative by saying this but you totally don't understand what this "Jacobson's organ" is/can do. It's got nothing to do with vision. It's an olfactory organ, also known as the Sense of Smell, so you're entire argument is now defunct.

Hell, even wiki lists how each animal uses it and next to the snake link it reads:
# Snakes use this organ to sense prey, sticking their tongue out to gather scents and touching it to the opening of the organ when the tongue is retracted.
See? SMELL. NOT VISION!

Snakes see in infrared with their eyeballs. This is not some "psychic ability," it's a form of vision. While their tongues do help them find prey once it's lost, it's not how they "see the world."
Fact is, you can not see without eyes. Doesn't matter if you see things in ultraviolet, gray scale or infrared. You need eyes to see, period.

And while I do admit that the Predators biohelmets make it easier for them to see, I wouldn't call their vision "useless".
Hell, by your logic, humans have the worst vision in the animal kingdom.
True, we see more colors than most species and in awesome detail but we can't see jack-fuck-shit at night, which leaves us vulnerable to night attacks.
So yeah, by all of mother nature's standards, our vision sucks tits but instead of gouging out our eyes--like you seem to want the Yautja to do--we created and developed multiple forms of Night Vision/Infrared, in order to make up for that trait. Why can't the Predators do the same?

As for my echolocation theory; you seem to have either little to no knowledge of, or just greatly underestimate the power and speed of Echolocation, my friend.

Bats fly at top speeds, in zero visibility and never run in to each other. Dolphins also use echolocation and they react to it instantly.
This implies that if there IS a delay, it's by nano/milliseconds, totally unnoticeable by man. So a Xenomorph could in fact, use Echolocation to find their way around and locate potential hosts.
This would also partially explain why Xenomorphs stalk before striking. They would need some time to make a 3D image with their echolocation but sometimes, an instant "first glance" would do in a pinch.

If I maybe so bold to point out... You seem like a hard core alien fan and you seem to like Predators too but it sounds like you're trying to change them in to something more Xeno and less Pred, because that's what you like more.
And while there's nothing wrong with wanting that, I don't think you're going to find many--especially in the Pred fandom--who are going to agree with you. Especially if you keep flinging misinformed factoids like this.

The Predalien--while awesome in it's own right--is just that, a Predalien. A Yautja/Xenomorph hybrid. It does not look enough like either species to pass off as one--though since the xeno's are probably blind, it would explain why the normal ones didn't give a damn.--and even if you gave it Predator gear, it doesn't make it a Predator.

This is probably why Half-Breeds are forsaken in Yautja society. No matter how hard they try, they are not "real" or "pure" Yautja.

You know, why are you getting yourself so worked up about this? I mean, it's just a movie! Holy shit, you're getting on to me like as if I'm some racist prick or something! Not to mention, I don't even know you, and we have no way of confronting eachother in person, so why don't you just calm down a little? So, I made a mistake with the "misinformed factoid". Big fucking deal! Get over it! It's not like the Predator's coming to kill me for it!

And yes, I do like the Xenomorphs more than the Predator, because to me, when it comes to aliens, the less human-like, the better. I understand there are people who disagree with my opinions; I get reminded of that fact every single day by the people who surround me. I don't need some faceless DA account user from the other end of the planet adding to that!!!! I don't mind a good debate, but I won't tolerate insulting hissy-fits from a complete stranger about a fucking SCIENCE FICTION CHARACTER!!!! (Yes, I can tell from the way you typed your response that you were pissed. And for no good reason, actually.)

Cause I can tell you right now that's just my worst habit showing. I fling around s-words like... people shower you with minute amounts of spit when they speak.

But all the same, whether I was pissed or not, I'm sorry if I made you feel stupid or anything else negative. I really wasn't trying trying to get at you or belittle you, I just wanted to make sure you got what I was trying to say.
Oh and sorry if I drilled a little too deeply there. It's another habit I have to work on...

LOL. I like the Predators just the way they are. Especially their humanoid appearance. To me, that makes them seem like something MORE than human.
As for their eyes and why they have them, don't ask me. I didn't create them. But every animal on earth that has the Jacobson's Organ also has eyes.
...Besides, I coulda sworn the Jacobson's Organ was associated with picking up scents and smell, not heat signatures.

That is a pretty neat reference sheet, actually. Good details in both stats and drawing, no doubt about that. And I like how you have one of them wearing a suit (would that be what some Yaut'ja be like after a generation of human diplomacy?)

It kind of hurts me to say that I think the Yaut'ja race should have been a little less humanoid, because they are so incredibly, awesomely badass creatures! What if they looked a little more like a beefier version of the "Predalien" from "AVPR?" Think about it: if the Predator looked like that, plus had all the speed and stregnth of the Predalien, along with the intelligent cunning and advanced technology of the Predator, then the Yaut'ja would be SO MUCH MORE AWESOME THAN THEY ALREADY ARE!!! Just a thought...
