What I have to ask is...how big is the First Order? We're they pretty much all in that giant Death Star thing, or were they bigger all over the place? Surely they aren't as big as the original empire. Are they comparable to the Trade Federation before it joined CIS?

The First Order. We don't see the Helghan Empire packing anything comparable to the First Order's Star Destroyers or Starkiller Base, and we see no Helghast with superpowers comparable to Kylo Ren's. If the Helghan Empire manages to win a battle, so what? The First Order can simply destroy the Helghast planets, and they don't need a Death Star or Starkiller Base to do that- look up the term "Base Delta Zero."

If you removed star killer base. Then it's helghast because of their sheer stubbornness and training and the fact they have MAWLRs and ARC cannons

The ARC cannons fires pure bolts of electricity that can destroy a ship from orbit and it's also used as a AA gun against fighters
