If I have time again and start a tour I'll try to scan a few birds with hdr.

HDR entails multiple original exposures, bracketed for density. This is Tone Mapping - almost the same thing, but it's generated from a single Raw original camera file. It works because Raw (such as NEF) camera files contain MUCH more information than initially displayed. And either way, it really is easy, once you get the hang of it. Oh, I spose everything is easy once you learn how. -J:

i made hundreds of hdr photos with that technique and you say it is wrong? i suggest that check out my hdrs before say it's wrong. there are a lot of techniques to make an hdr and this is one of them. so people readily believe this tutorial, it makes sense and it is one of the right techniques.

no you dont need to make it from camera if your camera good enough for raw format you can do it with ps and almost you can reach same result
you must learn something before right something

Photomatix is pretty cheap considering, and if you can't afford PS, then take the extra time to shoot 3 photos on a tripod atleast 1-2 stops apart, and then use photomatix or similar program
Atleast you end up with a nice looking HDR than PS! They don't tend to work too well that I have found.
