It's been a long time since I've submitted.. No, I haven't stopped working on 3D projects, I've just been working less frequently cause school work is getting heavier

Whole project took about 55 hours so far, from start to finish, including a brochure that highlights all the important features, which I'll be posting soon.

In this render, the Ascending Bookshelf is in the lowered position. This bookshelf fits seamlessly into the ground when lowered.

Modeled in Sketchup, imported into 3DsMax for lighting, texturing, some fix-ups, and camera angles. Ladders and books are completely modeled in 3Dsmax, and they are actually constrained to only move along the tracks. Rendering by VRay

There are just over 1000 book entities, each one with a cover and a box primitive for the pages, although you may not see any.. Every single book is individually movable, and there are about 100 unique book skins.

Computer Specs:

Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz Hyperthread
2GB DDR1 at 333MHz
2x80GB SATA1 HD
nVidia/BFG Geforce 8600GT OC 256MB

Renderings ranged from 3 to 6 hours for 1920x1200 resolution.

I'm with Wilde-media.
You're crazy for modeling every single book. But damn, that craziness made a real nice picture.

As for the library itself, that's one fine looking library. When the shelves are lowered, the library looks really bare. There's only like one place to sit. (Aside from the floor.)

What would it look like with carpet..or rugs?
What are in those cupboard-looking things?
Why are they slanted?

If this place was real, those cupboard-looking things would be nice to sit on...but they're slanted..so you'd slide off...

How come the lowered bookshelf is the only thing in the room that's black (or is it dark green?) aside from the door?

When the shelf is lowered, where does it go? Like what'd be in the floor below it that'd allow it to sit there?

Wow, you know everything just by looking at it, eh?
I think that the wood flooring adds a more "classic feel" to it; also, those ARE cupboards that can be used for anything. The ascending bookshelf isn't the only thing that's black though...the ceiling trim and the tracks for the ladder are black too; also, when it's lowered..it obviously goes into the ground..

I don't know everything.
I just got loads of questions.

Ionno, I guess in my opinion, it seems too...open. Yes, I guess it gives it a classic feeling, and that's great. But what I'm getting at (and I guess it's just the way I stroke) is maybe making it look more...home-y. More cozy. Like if it was in someone's house, someone who read a lot, they're probably want to spend quite a bit of time there to read where it's quiet and nice. Sitting right by the window is nice, but, if it's too hot, you'll want some shade. One could sit on the floor, but sitting on hardwood for a long while can hurt (believe me, I've tried). Sometime big comfy chairs, or carpet or a rug can help make it more...person friendly. I guess if someone just wanted to get books and move to a different room, it'd be okay.

See? Ha ha, I don't know everything. I didn't realize those were black as well.

Yes, I know it obviously goes into the ground. I'm just saying, if it were on a second floor or third floor or something, what would happen to the floor below it. It'd be going into the ground on the floor it's on. But it'd be coming in from the ceiling from the floor below. If you look out the window, it looks like there's a nice view..which means (yes, the house or whatever could just be on a mountain or something) that room is high up, like on a higher floor or something. I guess I'm asking if it's realistic to have a shelf that lowers into the ground. It just seems like something hyped up from a batman movie where a shelf comes up from the ground with a bunch of weapons to choose from. (Because when you watch movies, you don't usually think about realistic things like that...unless you plan to poke fun at the movie, but that's all in a different nature of fun.)

I can't read Japanese.
Was it necessary to type something in Jap? (Unless you want to diss me?)

OMG! You must have some patience to model every individual book and even add unique covers! Keep up the good work!
