This entire brochure was done in Photoshop, and the whole project took about 55 hours so far.
Modeled in Sketchup, imported into 3DsMax for lighting, texturing, some fix-ups, and camera angles. Ladders and books are completely modeled in 3Dsmax, and they are actually constrained to only move along the tracks. Rendering by VRay
There are just over 1000 book entities, each one with a cover and a box primitive for the pages, although you may not see any.. Every single book is individually movable, and there are about 100 unique book skins.

I still think that a library should have more comfy places to sit. Sitting on hardwood for too long hurts one's behind.
What happens if a book falls out from the ascending bookcase? (Could it even fall out? Like, if it wasn't put back properly.)

Awesome ideas, I'd love to have a library like that--i could sit for hours.

I couldn't.
There's no where good to sit there.

Unless you were afraid of heights.
Plus, if it's REALLY sunny out, you'll be sitting in the sun. And after a while, that's really uncomfortable. (Trust me.)
But if it's not sunny, like rainy for example, windows are cold. So that's also uncomfortable.
If I had a library, I'd totally want rugs, carpet or a chair. Even when I think about it, I don't know of a library that really has any hardwood floor. The library at Ridgeview didn't, it had carpet and chairs. Our school's library, memorial library, the library from Beauty and the Beast. NV library, even the main VPL!

True that, not a good place to be if you're afraid of heights.
I don't think i'd mind the window coldness, really. (considering how i press my forehead on cold car windows...)
and he said that you could change the polarization of the windows, so you'd have shade from the sun if you want.
But I totally agree with you about maybe a giant rug or a futon or something.

Shade from sun = no light.
Turning on lights = wasting energy.
Wasting energy = killing the earth.
Shade from sun = not as warm.
Those cupboards COULD have been good to sit on, but they're slanted. So, not good.
