Description
I invented a new font!(ahem) Anyway, I've got a couple of Avatar: the Last Airbender OC's in the works right now. Here's the first. Pencil sketches with digital colour applied.
Name: Kasai (literally means 'fire'...yes, I know, real original...
Age: 17
Nation: Fire
Bender: Yes (...I meant for her to be an ordinary foot soldier, but after drawing her armor I discovered that only benders wear this design, and I am NOT redrawing it!)
Features: Black eyes, brown hair.
Status: Sergent of the Fire Nation army, Firebending division.
Family: A military brat from way back. Both sides of the family have a long history of military-related jobs. Mother is a technician on one of the warships and Father is a Lieutenant Commander in the navy.
History: A child of the Navy, Kasai grew up being shuffled around from one naval base to another. Her mother was given several years of leave for mothering purposes, but declined the proposal, instead electing to continue her work while the ships were at port. During these enforced travels, Kasai became fast friends with another whose parents, through sheer luck, were transfered to many of the same bases as Kasai's mother. Meruto (Melt), a gentle soul with a deep mind and a silent tongue, became the brother that Kasai never had.
In Kasai's mind, there was never any question of a profession. She enlisted in the military the moment she turned 15, and badgered her friend Meruto until he agreed to join with her. They were sent off to training camp together. There they met Takumi (Inventor/Artisan), a creative genius who had an uncanny ability with mechanical gizmos but had been shunted from his beloved mechanic's status into the regular army because of his firebending talents.
Personality: Loyal to the point of fanaticism. She is otherwise a straightforward girl with a refined air and an underlying bawdy sense of humour; she has a cast iron stomach that she claims is the result of living off her mother's cooking for the first 14 years of her life, and can chug beer with the best of them. A good friend and an even better drinking buddy, she is well-liked among her unit...but...
Kasai is completely blinded by her loyalty to the Fire Lord. A friend who expresses doubt in her illustrious leader is a friend no longer; a traitor to her cause becomes instantly sub-human and is shown no mercy. This rather frightening side of her personality becomes immediately apparent during battle, and she will throw herself to her duty with the air of a zealot, no matter what the order. Her commanding officer, wary of her apparent lack of self-preservation and compassion, has blocked several otherwise well-deserved promotions, fearing what may happen if the girl ever rises to a command position.

How do you come up with these amazing descriptions of your character?
She's a great character and as I sort of mentioned I loved the in depth description of her

I don't know, they just sort of...come. Who am I to question the will of my muse?
Thank you very much!

Haha definitely, wouldn't want to change that

A character will always change every time you look at them.
I'm a chronic case of that ^^ F'r example, did you know that my character Nick has three identical incarnations? The differences between them is as little as 'he ended up with that woman instead of this' and 'that one met gods, but those ones met angels'.
And don't let me even start on the Nick's that *aren't* identical... there's about eighty. XD
Still, you've created a great character, however I'd place her at second lead, or a supportive role if it came to actually write this. She's not got that... sense of self that defines the leader of the plot, but she's certainly the leader of her pack.
Well done.

Well-spotted, Nick. She was actually created as a possible secondary character for a collab doujnshi with , who invented the primary characters. If Ariadne approves Kasai, you may well see more of her.
Thanks!

"Her commanding officer, wary of her apparent lack of self-preservation and compassion, has blocked several otherwise well-deserved promotions, fearing what may happen if the girl ever rises to a command position. "
That's one smart commander.
Cool idea! And she's not turning good straightaway either! That's something I can never bring myself to do...

If I have anything to say about it, she may never 'turn to the light,' though I may give her a chance to redeem herself. She's not really a bad character, per se, just very...disturbed, in certain areas. Brainwashed might be a good word, but it runs much deeper then that.
But that's what makes her fun to write about. Will some world-shattering event shake her unshakable beliefs? Or will she rise in the ranks of the fire nation army, and descend down to true villany?
...of course, even if some event does managed to dislodge her internal fanatic, I can't really picture Kasai changing all that much. She's just too rigidly trained. But she might learn to 'forget' or overlook certain things...

Thanks. ^^ She's not part of a fanfic...yet. I created her as a possible character to add to a collab doujnshi, and I don't know if it's going to go anywhere...but if it does I'll let you know!
