Description Juggernaut of the North

Giganuuk

Height: (shoulder) 70 meters (on hind legs) 135 meters

Length: 160 meters

Weight: 90,000 tons

Abilities:

-Mega Strength, resistance to most known forms of weaponry

-Manipulation of magnetic pressure around it can make the spot it wishes to, for a few moments, become a magnetic 'pole,' making for intense temperature changes as well as radiation burns happen often

-Can fire a pressurized blast of frozen air, a 'blizzard breath' of sorts, from the mouth, the exact methods are unknown

-Armored front legs make brutal bludgeoning weapons, along with sharp claws and equal combat proficiency on its hind legs as well as on all fours

-With no eyes, ears, or nose, sensory details are managed by a group of heat pits running down the entire body length

Weaknesses:

-Not the best heat resistance, but usually the bear is colder and wins the elemental bout

-Hot regions such as deserts and volcanic terrain are near impossible to navigate for him due to the thermal vision

-Short tempered and often brutal to those it its path, friend or foe

N.F.M.R. Case File

Sometimes, things just plain surprise us. No matter the moment, time, or place, things just come completely out of the blue and make us just wanna use the three letter internet lingo 'wut?'. I heard the term once while we were at our base in the US when I was checking internet rumors, so I'm not sure how it works, but. . . .

But anyway, London, that was one of those surprising times. Fafnir had near burned the city to the ground. We had to flee our vantage point on Big Ben to get away, and we had made contact with the military personnel on the city outskirts and took refuge there. The birds had been beaten, they had flown the coop long ago, leaving no resistance
The people were fleeing the city in throngs of mad mobs, trampling each other and not stopping for anyone or anything. It was so horrible I don't like thinking about it even now in retrospect.

But, it taught us all something. As 'fun' as our job had been, these were creatures with the power to end civilizations, and the way they work, they often do so. We were usually only watching the incident until Ragido arrived and finished the whole mess, but having not appeared in six months, the guy was on the back of our minds. This is why the UN wanted monsters to defend themselves with, the point we all seem to be learning is just about the only thing that can beat a giant monster is another giant monster. Ragido had done it enough times to be the champion, but unlike last time we were in London, he was nowhere to be found, nor any of his army either. What we would have given to see Ronis and Gobendra take on the beast, or Gladion, or the puffer fish, or- sorry, got a bit distracted.

Then the thought hit us, a few hours ago we were talking to a kaijin, a term Frank taught me when we were in Osaka. Sheymir had disappeared before Fafnir's sudden growth and breakout, thought he did not say where or why he was going, which led to some mixed opinions. I wanted to think he would help us like he said to the people of Dubai, but Frank and Mel couldn't help but think he ran away. In truth, it was a little of both.

Fafnir, in all his fiery rage, had just finished toppling the Parliament, don't know why the important building seem to always be saved for last in these moments, and he let loose a gout of flame and a roar, proclaiming his power to all who could hear. What he did not expect was for the call to be answered. . .

Reed Alexander

. . . . I just stood there, dumbfounded. No words were in my head, nor my mouth or any of my orifices. Then Mel says I started laughing crazy-like. But you can't blame me. THE THING WAS A GIANT MUTATED POLAR BEAR!!!!

Fafnir turned to face the source of the thundering roar, only to be knocked back by an earth-shattering tackle from a big white hunk of muscles. This was as big as the dragon, easily one of the biggest monsters to appear so far, and the biggest surprise is where he came from.

Sheymir, so he told us, fled so he could find a way to outmuscle the beast, and had used his powers to get himself to the arctic circle, where he says he encountered a full grown male polar bear that aggressively attacked him. Finding it perfect, it was mutated to the 'best of his ability.' It was a 'starchild' as the UN keeps saying, but instead of it just being a random mutation, this one was made by sentient hands into a weapon like no other, a polar bear close to twice Ragido's size, and the perfect size to tussle with the dragon, which the two oh so seem to enjoy doing.

The two tore up whatever was left of the city, the bear using his massive armored front legs and retractable claws against Fafnir's extendable wing bones and powerful tail. It seemed an even, and because of that extremely awesome, match, until something happened that surprised even me.

Fafnir released fire, but the bear simply exhaled and it went away, apparently that frustrates dragons, because he charged the polar powerhouse. The bear then reared up on his hind legs, and literally right-hooked the wyrm into the Thames river, which the bear then froze solid with what looked like a white tornado coming out of the mouth.

And with that, the fight was over, and snow began to fall on the fires, covering the scorched earth. Rather symbolic, if you ask me. The bear then simply shambled off from where he came, and then Sheymir appeared in our midst and explained a few things, namely the information mentioned earlier. Also, the bird duo appeared, in human form.

They told us a few things. The white woman said her memory wasn't what it used to be, but she was no skinwalker and she laughed and became very wistful in attitude when we described Ragido. Sheymir. . .they didn't like him for some reason, said he 'stank of the stars' or something. But they still thanked him for bringing the bear there, and they wished us well and. . . flew away, saying we would meet again, hopefully when 'complete' or something like that, it was hard to hear.

Since then, we've taken a real shine to staying in our hideout out in the American West where the UN won't find us. Emma, who joined us last time we were in London, left the team, saying that while she loved the time spent, she knew she needed to do things 'her own way' in this situation. Last I heard she created a monster information network, and she's got some pretty detailed stuff, and she says she'll contact us when she needs us.

In her place, Sheymir is with us now. The dude is actually a tolerable guy I'm finding, though we do disagree on some things, but who doesn't? Plus, his ability to sense a monster is unrivaled, and I mean that literally. Looks like the job is going to get a little more interesting, especially if we can get Noelle to start opening her mouth again. I don't mind Mel being quiet 'cuz that's how he rolls, but she had quite the spunk when I first met her, and I can't help but wonder what's making her like this. Ah well, I'm sure we'll figure it out, especially now that we've gone independent. With Reed handling the money, the alien the intel, Mel the muscle, Noelle and me the brains, and O' Malley the wheels, we're unstoppable.

Well, that's our situation. As for how the UN's doing, well, I got an interesting call from my old community college roomie, now a bigshot nanomachine producer, a Dr. Jonathan Arden, who had some interesting news to give us...

Frank Seltzer

(note: Before I go into details, know this. Of all the ideas I have worked with, this one is one of my absolute favorites out of them all. Giganuuk, a rather clever name if I do say so myself, was inspired by a few things.

One, I wanted to do a bear, especially after seeing a video of this guy [link] in action. That, and the recent Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland, mainly the tail being inspired by the giant Bandersnatch.

With that, though, I just had a generic big bear with a tail. I could give it ice powers, I thought, but that would be both generic and boring. So, I started thinking, 'how can you improve a bear?' That is no easy task, bears are about as hard to kaijufy as sharks, from what I've seen and tried. Most seem generic, few actually stand out, but then I pulled out an old dvd of mine one day and the match was made.

It was the first season of the action cartoon Ben 10, and the inspiration was the gorilla/cat/dog alien Wildmutt, which saw things with heat pits. It clicked right then and there.

With thermal vision, you get an interesting design, and you actually remove one of the few weaknesses a polar bear would have, its eyes and ears and nose, all weak spots. For a while the mouth was going to be changed too, but then I figured why get rid of the killing weapon, when you can improve it. And from all that synthesizing, Giganuuk, (giga+ nanuuk, the russian word for polar bear) was born.

An odd note would be that I unintentionally created a commonality, which led to the magnetic powers. I looked up the two bear constellations Ursa major and minor, and guess what? Old images of Ursa Minor, which contains the little dipper, which contains the north star, are of a bear with a long tail. Can you believe that?

Anyway, I've been looking forward to this guy for a while, taking the largest existant land mammal predator and turning into an apocalypse level monster that's big by Heisei standards. He is the largest Starchild to occur thus far, and will remain one of the more important characters to the storyline, stretching all the way into Paul's time in the light.

Anyway, 'till next time. The guys from the NFMR are going to be laying low for a bit, so the next few files will be of the other attempts at guardian monsters, (amazing that the UN will still go through with it when London is near floored, eh?)

The abominable Godzilla

Me: "This species of Godzilla lives in cold environments and has 50 foot thick fur."

Mecha Godzilla: "your smart."

Me: "why thank you."

Pretty cool design, and I somehow knew that Wildmutt was the reason for the heat pits.

He has a talon beard? AWESOME!

I really thought he was a mole at first, something along the lines of the ice digger guys from "Godzilla The Series". But I was a little shocked to see that it was in fact a bear.

I'm not sure why just about every kaiju bear has ice powers, I can count on one hand how many don't...it's like two. Bears just seem like lords of the north, the undisputed top predators of their domain, granted the giant bear I created got his iced butt handed to him by a penguin, but I digress.

The tailed look is also nothing new, a couple of bears have it. The same could be said for the rock like scute son his body, though when you bring everything together you get a rather impressing and clearly monstrous kaiju, I tip my hat to you and this bugger you have created.

Very impressive. I expected badass and badass was delivered. You've actually managed to fully kaijufy a bear and that demands major credit. The ice powers seem to typical for a bear monster but what other elements do bears really roll with? Earth? Water? Going by Christian symbology bears represent wrath which usually goes along with red and thus fire. A thunder bear would be neat.

It's a shame but I've had an ice bear in the ole brain cogs for awhile, just never got around to making him. I'd hate to tread on other people's ideas but he's something I've had planned for awhile to give my universe something equivical to Rosie. I've decided I'm putting a bit into his design from a 'interesting source' though so it won't be JUST a generic ice bear.

Anyway, really liking how the series is going. Keep it coming .

That it was

Indeed, as I mentioned, bears are, like, one level below sharks in terms of how to make them nastier than they already are. Bears are a little easier because they can be combined with other animals easier than a shark can, but that still isn't easy. I think Avatar the last airbender had a 'platypus bear' in one episode, and that's about as creative as they get, it even layed an egg when it was scared.

Anyway, a few other interesting bits about bears. . . the Celt's thought they died every winter and came back to life in the spring, so they symbolized rebirth to them. A ghost bear would be cool to see.

I went with ice mostly because he was purposefully mutated to be an antithesis to Fafnir's fire. And in ancient societies bears were right at the dragons level in terms of fear.

Interesting source, eh? Knowing you, it'll be an instant classic.
