Description
Durarara Celty HelmetI got an old helmet. Remove the visor and clean up the helmet to prepare for modification.
1) I create a paper template by folding it into the cat ear shape direct on the helmet. In this case, I can adjust the curvature as well as to mark the location of the ears.
With the template, I made a reverse trace for the opposite ear.
2) I fold and mount the paper ears onto the helmet using masking tape. Then I filled up with foam to secure the shape.
3) I wrap the ears with foam sheets, and primer coat the helmet and gesso coat the ears. The coatings enable me to better work with the spraying later on.
4) I spray the helmet yellow and did a masking of the design. then I spray the blue for the pattern. Lastly I coat the paintwork with glossy paint.
5) As my helmet was an obselete design. the is no black visor available for sale. So I use a UV flim for window and glue over the existing visor before I fix the visor back.

Awesome helmet!! The final result look amazing!!! Did you find coating the ears in gesso was easier than sanding the clay before spray painting?

Yup, I rather sand Gesso coats compared to clay. Clay will add on a lot of weight.

I'm using the black UV flim that people stick to their windows to shield off UV rays and privacy purpose. There's no special technique. Just keep your film smooth n stick with tape at the sides of the visor.

I tape the film firmly using double tape and shear off the extruding edges with a sharp penknife.

hey! i'm just wondering, in what way did you prepare the helmet before you started working on it? did you have to sand it down or something?

use a cardboard n fold cat ears that you find suitable and close to celty helmet shape. From there. make it into a 3D structure and paint over.

On average a new simple full face helmet will be over 110sgd. for a 2nd hand low condition ones. U can get about 30sgd to 50sgd in here. we got off from Ebay.

I got no idea of the helmet model. It's an obsolete model. There's some damages when my friend bought it off ebay sg at quite a reasonable cheap price.
I guess any full face helmet should be able meet the requirement to modify.
