A couple by the name of Smith (possibly a pseudonym) were chatting one evening when the mrs suddenly said, "It will come over the hill when it comes." Afterwards she had no knowledge of relaying the strange phrase to her husband. While strange, at the time it didn't seem particularly notable and Mrs. Smith had no further memory issues.

Three months passed. Mrs. Smith had developed a vague sense of unease and feared being outside at dark. One night in bed, she awoke her husband and told him, "The thing from over hill is upon us."

They heard the outside door open and a heavy, wet tread crossing rooms and climbing the stairs. They clung together as their bedroom door swung over to reveal a bloated, muscular thing. It never even glanced in their direction as they lay paralyzed with fear. Instead it simply crossed the room, looked out the window and vanished into the evening light.

The couple felt they had seen a demon and the strange sighting and its preceding instances of seemingly channeled speech left them with a sense of profound dread they never managed to forget.
