Description
Oil on canvas board.I painted this last weekend in a nearby open air museum. The building is an old shop. I attempted something between impressionism and realism, and worked pretty quickly to keep it lively. I guess it turned out ok. It's no match to Nilo [link] but you can't always top yourself.
Perhaps, more importantly, I got my first real commission while painting it (family aside). Some middle aged woman asked me to do a portrait of her son, which is good, since commissioned portraits are exactly what I would want to do at this point. But that's not until october.

I love the Impressionistic quality of it... the staccato strokes and interesting lightplay.
(I love to make up words.)

I just love this one..fabulous interaction of light, color and shading...very educational for myself...since you are using techniques that I am trying to simulate in photoshop...your entire gallery is an inspiration. Great stuff!

I was wondering if you know of any good painting tutorials on the net, or have some of your own techniques in tutorial form...Your stuff is amazing.

Sorry, but I don't really know any good oil paint tutorials. I only bought a computer home last summer, and learned to paint a lot before that. I've done a minor subject in college and am partially self thought with (Finnish-language) books.
wetcanvas.com might have something, and this is a good site for portrait tutorials [link] - but apart from that, don't know any online resources.

Joo, ollaan asuttu täällä jo kauan, yli viisitoista vuotta. Seurasaaressa tuli käytyä silloin tällöin, asuttiin siinä melko lähellä 4 vuotta.
Minusta tuo kuva on oikein onnistunut.. on aina mukava nähdä perinteistä taidetta!
