Description
I just returned from a six day course on landscape painting in northern Finland , so finally there's new stuff to submit. Hurrah. And I'm now back in Internet's reach too! Yay.This is my pride and joy. Painted completely on location (proof: [link] ) in two days, except for the vegetation in lower left corner, which I finished from memory in the studio. It's a river called Nilo in Kuusamo, Finland. Oil on canvas board 61 * 50 cm. I've never before painted moving water, but I like the way it turned out.
The teacher called this one "pretty", and that's not the usual adjective people use to describe my stuff. And it makes me so proud

This is absolutely breathtaking! The brush strokes are amazing. I really think that you should do more landscape paintings that involve moving water.

Thank you very much for the fav. High praise indeed Yeah, it's painted on location - I'm terribly proud of this one, as it's something I did not think I could achieve. It was the final work of a very busy landscape painting course, I guess I was warmed up at that point. thanks again.

I really like this peice! Your perspective on water is great, and I love the synergy of the water with its surroundings. It allows my eyes to wander over the surface with no abruption. The color is amazing. It really makes me want to visit Finland! I've noticed that everywhere you go, the sunlight is in a different hue. I take it that in Finland the light is more of a soft silver. Here in Missouri it is more of a sharp silver. As you go up north, it turns to more of a gold color. That soft silver is very enchanting. Well done!

Thanks, I'm proud of this one - something I wouldn't have expected to have done. The light over here is really pale compared to more southern Europe, but the summers can be lovely.

Hmm very much in the style of the impressionists. I can only admire the skill shown and the amount of effort this must have taken.

Thanks It was surprisingly effortless to paint, but this was the final work I did on that course, and I had been painting and drawing about 12 hours a day on that course in July.

A really nice job you did here, the depth in this scenery is carried out by the difference of ur strokes and textures, as well as colors.

Thanks a lot รeah, I thought it looks like Monet.
I also realized while I was painting it, that impressionism, if you take it to mean capturing one brief moment as it is often understood to be, is essentially faking it, because the light changes too quickly to be captured in a large oil painting.

Thank you very much - I appreciate you're commenting on my page instead of the Painters page (which I of course don't mind at all, but it's better this way)

This is fantastic! I adore the elegance of the water, and the detail of the foliage. This composition has realistic depth ... this is great. Take care.
