“That should be just about everything on the list. I hope I didn't forget anything.” Making your way back from a simple errand, you strolled down the street with a bright smile on your face. Despite the daily morbidity and gruesomeness of your work, you had honestly never been happier than you were tight now. You never would have imagined it, but working for the Undertaker brought a sense of purpose to your life, something that you hadn't had before. This new purpose gave you something to look forward to, which in turn, made you very happy. Being around the Undertaker all the time wasn't exactly a bad thing either. As you approached the small building you now called home, your smile widened even more.

When you pushed open the old, creaking door, a rather odd scene awaited you. All of the curtains had been drawn, blocking out the afternoon sunlight. “What's going on in here?” You sat down the items you had just purchased moments earlier, and wearily followed a strange melody through the house. The instant you entered the dark hall, you could see one of the back rooms glowing brightly from what looked like fire. Following the sound, and the flickering light, you entered the tiny room and stared at what you saw before you. Dozens and dozens of pure white candles illuminated every inch of the room. Though the Undertaker was a rather eccentric man, you'd never walked in on anything quite like this before. “This is a little, odd.”

“Well, now, that's not the reaction I was hoping for at all.” Having silently made his way directly behind you, the Undertaker placed his thin, boney hand on your shoulder and gently ran his long, black nail over your throat. “You don't like my little surprise?”

“I didn't say I didn't like it, I'm just not sure what, "it", is.” Other than the candles and music, you really saw nothing else in this room that could be deemed a surprise. There were a few vases of assorted flowers as well, but they were more than likely meant for caskets than they were for you. “I'm not exactly sure why you'd be surprising me either. It's not a holiday, and it's not my Birthday either.”

“Course not, if I told you that, it really wouldn't be much of a surprise, now would it?” He let out a strange sounding chuckle, then stepped around you so that the two of you were face to face. “I'll explain everything in due time my love, for now, just humor me.” He took both of your hands in his and pulled you to the centre of the room. “You know, you've been working for me for quite some time now. I didn't think you'd last this long, but I'm certainly glad you did.” Another chuckle escaped his throat as he pulled your body close to his. “I don't think things would ever be the same if you decided to go off and leave me here alone now.”

Still confused as to what was going on exactly, you followed his lead as he slowly began to sway back and forth to the wonderfully odd music. “I'm really glad I stayed here too, and don't worry about me leaving you, I don't plan to do that anytime soon.”

“Well, that's good to hear now isn't it love? It makes what I'm about to do much easier on me.” Giggling like an excited child, he spun you around the tiny, glowing room with ease. The fact that you had very little practice dancing didn't seem to matter at all. Somehow he still managed to keep the dance perfectly in sync with the music without either of you stepping on the others feet or losing balance. “So, you haven't the slightest idea what I'm about to do then? You don't even want to take a little guess before I go off and tell you?”

Though you couldn't see his eyes due to his thick, grey hair covering them, you could tell he was looking at you in a way that more than warranted a blush. Since you really had no proof of this, however, you tried to look, and act calm, just in case this feeling was nothing more than your imagination. “I suppose I could make a guess or two as to what's going on right now, but I think it would be a lot faster if you would just tell me.”

“Yes, that it would. But doing it that way isn't all that much fun now is it.” The smile on his pale, scarred face became so wide, you thought his face might actually crack. “If that's the way you want to do it though, I won't tell you you can't. Now I don't want you reading too much into this. Can't have you getting all excited about nothing.”

You knew he was trying to build up your curiosity and excitement before finally relieving his surprise, but if he really didn't want you jump to conclusions, that was the worst thing he could possibly do. “You're starting to confuse me, you know. The longer you wait to tell me what's going on here, the more nervous I'm becoming about it. So, the sooner you let the cat out of the bag, the less worked up I'll be.”

“Fair enough love.” He suddenly twirled you around, causing your dress to spin away from your body like a bright, blooming flower. When he finally stopped spinning you, he brought your body to his, held you tightly against his chest with his arm and held up a shimmering, sparkling ring between his nails. “I told you not to read too much into this, remember that.”

It took you several seconds to determine if what you were seeing was actually real or not. How in the world were you supposed to keep your imagination at bay when he was holding up what looked very much like a wedding ring right in front of you. If what you were already thinking was in fact correct, the candles, flowers and music would have made perfect sense. That being said, the Undertaker didn't seem like one to even consider something like marriage, so you did your best to keep your emotions at a minimum. “I'm really trying to think logically right now, but to be completely honest with you, it's not working very well. Before I let my mind jump to conclusions, could you please explain to me why you have that and why it seems like you're trying to give it to me?”

“It seems like I'm trying to give it to you because I am, it's as simple as that.” He gently took one of your hands in his and held it up to his chest as he thought to himself. “As for why I'm giving it to you, well now, that is a much harder question to answer.”

The longer he waited to tell you his true intentions, the brighter and hotter your face burned. You told yourself that he was only teasing you, but your brain wouldn't listen. “Before I accept this, I think it would be a good idea if you at least tried to explain yourself. I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into to.”

“Of course. Anyone with a good head on their shoulders would want to know that.” The Undertaker gave the top of your head a little tap with his knuckle and laughed before continuing on. “Usually wedding rings are a promise to marry, but you knowing me like you do, you probably know I don't plan on doing something flashy like that. Too many formalities for my liking.” He nodded. “ I'd much rather it if this was just a quiet little agreement between the two of us.”

You twisted your mouth into a puzzled sort of expression. What he said was easy enough to understand, as was his reasoning, but that didn't keep you from feeling a little disappointed. “So you want to be married to me, you just don't want to actually marry me?”

“Exactly love. I knew a sharp minded girl like you'd understand.” You didn't know it, but your disappointment was clearly written all over your face. “Now don't give me that look. I warned you not to go off and excite yourself over this.”

“I know you did.” Having dreamed about your wedding since you were a little girl, the idea of not having one at all was difficult to swallow. Not only did he want to skip the wedding, he didn't even want to be legally married to you. The latter was something you couldn't bring yourself to ignore. “You know, I've already given up quite a lot to be here with you, I don't think asking to make things legal is too much for me to ask. We don't have to have a ceremony, but I'm not going to be looked down upon any more than I already am.”

The Undertaker tapped his chin and hummed as he thought. “Come to think of it, you have done a great deal for me, haven't you? I suppose it's about time I did something for you then, hmm?” Smiling again, he held your hand out and slowly began to slide the old, yet beautiful ring onto your finger. Before it had passed the knuckle, he stopped. “You know something love, I haven't even asked you yet.” He smirked. “Do you even fancy me enough to wear this ring?”

“I guess that is a pretty important question isn't it? Odd how it slipped both of our minds.” With your heart fluttering in your chest like a dozen butterflies, you let out a gleeful laugh. “As long as that ring didn't belong to one of your guests, yes. I'd love to wear it, forever and for always.”

“Come now, you don't really think me a grave robber do you?” He slid the ring onto your finger and softly kissed your blushing cheek. Holding you close to him once more, he silently began to waltz around the room with you securely in his arms. The music had long since stopped playing, but the beautiful melody remained in your memory. Neither of you spoke as the candles one by one, burned out, leaving the two of you to dance, alone in the silent darkness.
