Description
Part 2: [link]part 3: [link]
To give some idea how far behind I am on stuff, i started this one around my birthday.
...yeah, i suck lately.
Anyhow, seems like it's been awhile since the goofy, vain side of Gogo reared its head, and so NEW COMIC!
It's been SO long since I've posted an actual comic that it's probably a good idea to point out: Gogo is the tall one, Andy is the short one
Another note: the scooter/bike Andy's working on is sort of an "errand bike" based on the 1964 Cushman Highlander model. I really tend to shy away from drawing vehicles almost as much as backgrounds but this is sort of putting my toes in the water. The bike (and the "Fisher's" logo) are part of the Fisher family business that plays a bit of a part in the story, and so hopefully the Cushman makes more appearances going forward
Yet another note: Ever since I've started 'Bomango' there's been a bit of curiosity regarding the relationship between these two, their respective ages, etc. I've felt that clearly defining things would sort of end the journey before it ever began, but in the past it's sort of been intimated that Gogo considers Andy too young for anything serious, and her "gift" in this comic is sort of a teasing, torturous bone thrown his way in that regard. Andy, to his credit, is able to perform some conversational judo here, and...well, more to come.
They say it's the thought that counts, but what a weird gift.
peace

Ha! I like this one. Escpecialy digging his little smile in the last frame. Like he's up too something.
On an artistic note, this has always been one of my favorite art styles. The sort of black and white with only touches of color.

Is it just me... the way she talks... I imagine it in Schwarsenegger's accent. Not the voice, just the accent.

There are times... Like now... Where you can see that if he tried, Andy could wrap Gogo around his finger if he wasn't such a nice kid. But still nice to know at least someone has a handle on her.

Oh dear...this has the potential to be utterly horrifying if Gogo makes good on her threat...can you imagine a less 'beat the crap out of you Gogo' in place of something more feminine? All I can imagine is her watching Opera all day, trying hard to emulate Didi, and giving herself a reason to attend that spa that had so many of the employees looking at her haphazardly.

Oh good lord, the proverbial s***t is about about to hit the proverbial fan.
I don't which smile is scarier in that last panel; Gogo's or Andy's. What is Andy plotting?! I've never really seen him try to manipulate Gogo before, usually it's been the other way around. I just hope he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew.

You know I been wondering why haven't you started a webcomic about your characters, but I can guess that it is the amount of free time right.

I love how Gogo's muscularity seems to fluctuate slightly depending on how aggressive/excited/dramatic she's trying to be - as if she "flexes up" every time she wants to make an impression, then relaxes when she's no longer the center of attention.
I love the color scheme that you went with for this comic. Having everything but the eyes done in shades of grey and white makes your gaze focus on the characters' faces, and the emotions expressed by them, and makes them leap off the page a bit more.
Gogo's expression in the top-right-hand panel is almost unnervingly cute, and much more gentle than what we're used to seeing from her.
I have to wonder though if it's purely coincidental that - ignoring length - she's sporting a strikingly similar hairstyle to Andy at the start of the comic...

Although I know Andy has a way of playing Gogo in his own ways, I'm sure Gogo will pull a 180 on him from what he was intending in challenging her to do.

I had an endgame in mind for this, but new ideas in how to get there, especially since this seems like a golden opportunity to touch on self-image and what's attractive. Or something.

Dunne In reply to VanHeist [2012-11-17 08:19:28 +0000 UTC]
Well, since you have an endgame, I'm only going to speculate that they'll both realize how good they got it with each other. Unless they can grow from that experience.
I'm sure well see an ice-cream garnished with "hows them nuts?" revenge ending similar to Gogo's dealing with Rugby.
But I can't wait for the "how we got here" in between now and the endgame!

Hmm, interesting. Very interesting indeed.
I'm rather curious to see what's in store for us all.
Though...my 'this might not turn out so well' sense is tingling. Yet, I'm rooting for Gogo anway.
Good to see you doing another one of these.

I have to point out though! There's a lot of Avatar style in your comics as of late (NOT THAT IT'S SOME NEGATIVE! LOVE IT!<3) And I'm starting to wonder wether Gogo is taking a slight turn towards Korra? Maybe it's just me, but apart from the brutish demeanor and gogo's ever growing ego, thoose two characters have a lot in common when it comes to energy and spunk

VanHeist In reply to Lykkespreder [2012-11-16 03:17:10 +0000 UTC]
I have to point out that you're probably right I believe there are two things that really change your work: long, repetitive projects (like a full size comic book) and becoming a fan of something. Like this year, I discovered Legend of Korra (and thus Avatar: TLA, which I'd never seen) and it hit a nerve. It looked enough to me like my own work (on a much more professional, skilled level) and while I haven't consciously tried to copy the look, I think it gave me an inspirational push.
I hope my characters have enough of their own look and personality that people don't look at them and see someone else's style, but as a fan, it's a comparison that at least feels like a good direction holy cow I'm rambling signing off!

Hehe, trust me, the comparison of characters was only due to the context of the style subject, there is no way I would ever truly make gogo motherfucker dragon/chucknorris spawn to out to be the same/ripoff of korra, simply a minor observation of some similiar traits

A premeditated and perfectly aimed attack on Gogo's ego like that? Just enough to get her to entice her whilst not enough to initiate full-on murder, a risky move that he made unflinchingly...
...Well in town they say, Andy's balls grew three sizes that day.
