You've got a great talent!
The expression sort of makes you think:
"That poor little bird's gonna get himself fucked-up!"

how long does it take you to make a piece like this?

hmmm this one? From sketch to inks to wash to scan and color...this one took about 3-4 hours total because it's not very complex....something with background and more color and detail usually ranges 7-8 hours, but it all depends on what's being drawn. I like to work quick because I might get bored coming back to it

I don't usually draw, but that's the problem I have when I do try to do something fully rendered. Short attention span = photography.

i've been such a bully to my photographer friends over stuff like that....that's the problem with great ideas, though...after a very short while they become regular, boring ones.

haha is that pro-photo or anti? that makes sense. often i'll start something really cool and after a while i realize that it's just bullshit. great ideas don't run out of steam.
photo series = excellent ways to convey ideas. or so i believe at this point.

what is it that makes kids so easy to look creepy? thanks!

ludeshka In reply to VanHeist [2006-07-06 15:51:48 +0000 UTC]
Well, I think it`s because kids don`t really care about the difference between right or wrong, and thus will do anything if it`s fun.
That, and their really big heads.

like Somara(sp?) that creepy chick from the Ring, only with blue skin and a lot scarier... i can't tell if she's petting that birdy or trying to shove her pinky into its neck, lol. i want her coat thing! and i can't believe how good you are with inks and watercolors. *invents talent-sucking machine to suck out your greatness* lol.
really nice picture. your characters are always full of emotion. mine are just kinda 'flat'...

a talent-sucking machine? it's called TV
seriously though....thanks very much for the compliment. inks and watercolors are a mountain of experimentation and climbing it takes your entire life (or so it seems)
peace!

The glowing effect is very neat here.
But for some reason, the face is driving me nuts. Must be the eyes.

A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel in the front of his trousers. The barkeep asks the pirate "What's that thing doing in your pants?"
Says the pirate: "Arr, it's drivin' me nuts!"

ooh, she looks eeevil! Like one of the kids from Children of the Corn or something... and is she going to stroke the bird or squish it? Excellent stuff.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
VanHeist In reply to curua [2006-05-02 22:21:05 +0000 UTC]
perhaps stroking the bird would be more disturbing, only delaying the inevitable destruction of its mind, body, and soul....which the kid will probably do shortly. I kind of like the ambiguity of it. Thanks man!

I love the lighting and I want a jacket like that. The bird is a great contrast of color to the rest of the picture (aw crap I'm going color theory class on you).

i fear no color theory! i still don't understand complimentary colors...shouldn't ALL colors be free?

Those eyes... I can't stop looking at those scary eyes and that smile.. Is like she's having a good time, enjoying the viewer reaction on what's she's doing to that bird. The white brighty background helps a lot to focus on the char too. Nic, nice piece.
I don't like her, she looks bad, very bad from the inside, rotten. Excellent work.

thanks very much creepy kids make so much more of a statement than creepy adults....it seems so much more preternatural when a kid appears to be immersed in evil...i liked the way the hair turned out too
