Description For the first round of 's Tournament. I coudn't think of a DC character I wanted to see as a zombie, so I took the part in the challenge outline where it said "Theme: Zombies" as the instruction and "(The character of your choice from the DC universe has been ZOMBIFIED!. )" as a suggestion.

Can you tell I've been reading a lot of Hellboy recently?

You work great with dramatic shadows and dark stuff (I've always problems with negative space). This looks cool.

Nahnahnhanhanahnhahnahnahnah ZOMBIIIEEEZ haha sorry this is what happens when you are on you tube, watching the dark knight and stumble across batman. Very nice work, batman will have those zombies back into their graves within the next five minutes

Haha, don't apologise! That's pretty awesome.

Thank you for faving this. Bats is my favourite superhero, so of course I agree that he'd have them dealt with in no time... but Hellboy'd be faster (it is actually his job, after all).

The picture was for a competition wherein the artists needed to add the theme of zombies to a DC character, and I'm not fond of zombies and I'm a huge fan of DC, so didn't want to zombify any of my favourite characters.

The pose is actually very similar to one in a Batman Hellboy crossover comic I have with art by Mike Mignola. You have no idea how hard I geeked out when I saw it.

Batman is the shiznack, and between joker poisioning people, scarcrow traumatising them and the riddler doing his thing between them they could manage a zombie attack. But Red would be faster, all that smoking's good for him

Thats within reason, and hey for all they know that could be zombie joker, alfred's evil clone zombie and just an actual zombie.

LOL I can imagine I know a few comic geeks, they be awesome

Yeah, the activities of Batman's rogues gallery can get pretty... intense.

I dunno if I'd go in that direction for an explanation... it could just be a one-shot story or another hero's villain raising the dead. Hell, it could be The Gentleman Ghost making zombies to act as muscle for bank, museum or safe-house heists and Bats has caught up with him. Or maybe some enemy of Zatanna's or Wonder Woman's (can anyone say Circe?) in Gotham raising hell (possibly literally).
Personally I prefer supernatural zombies over biological ones, hence the yellow glow in them.

Hahaha, you seem pretty awesome yourself.

*blink blink after reading explanation*

I take that back, by comic nerd buddies are inferior haha

mmm Imma have to agree and disagree with supernatural zombies, yellow glow is cool and all, and sure they're probably faster, and stronger, and intellieienter...(takes a moment to remind self what her argument was) oh yes, But I just prefer the traditional zombies that move 2mph, for some reason cant bend their knees and yet always manage to kill bitches

Yes I be the holder of the blue ribbon in awesome, it comes with epicness and awesomeocity

I'll write you a longer reply tomorrow (or rather, later today ) but for now I'm going to bed (and since you appear to be in Ireland I don't know who you're still up either... GO TO BED! ), but I actually entered this months ago. The competition's long over and while I did win the bout I entered this picture for I ended up dropping out because I wasn't feeling up to it.

Anyway, 'night 'night.

nuuuuugh the point Im online at all is cause I cant sleep -__-..

nuuugh.... I want my reply but fair enough, sleep wins.. for now...

Ah, fair enough. I've been suffering a similar problem too, hence why I'm up so late as well.

Weeeeeell you know... Ireland, Northern Ireland... they're very close together... I was almost right. (Also, I just checked your location and it says Ireland... >.>)

Honestly I find slow zombies that moan for brains and who's capabilities change depending on who they're chasing and how important they are to the plot rather annoying. That whole "zombies that move 2mph, for some reason cant bend their knees and yet always manage to kill bitches" is just lazy directing, not anything to do with the zombies.

Hence why I prefer the original, supernaturally-animated-servants version of zombies because people aren't as familiar with them and don't have a lot of pre-conceptions about how they "should" act.
It's a bit more flexible. Also, it can create even better dramatic circumstances.
If a hero can just get to the alter/controlling wizard in time, they can stop all the zombies at once!

Blue ribbon in(of) awesome? Is that a reference to something. Sorry. >.<

Just blame the season of Christmas, everyone’s just out of routine.

Haha it’s all one island but you have to be politically correct these days. (Northern Ireland isn’t an option on da we just arent that important as a mini nation)

PSSH that’s classic Zombies, if it weren’t them we wouldn’t get the super machines we have today. Respect the classics, no matter how annoying or cringe worthy they may be.

Haha irrelevant because heros are lazy and incredibly lucky, Villans are hardworking and determined

does referencing to the fact that they give you blue ribbons for winning something as opposed to an actual trophy count as a reference ?

Hm.. my sleep schedule's gradually been getting worse over a long while, though. I'm trying to get a grip, but.... >.>

Hahah, I'm aware that there's a difference between Ireland and Northern Ireland. I just didn't know that devART won't let you put Northern Ireland. That sucks.

I prefer to go for the things the "classics" drew from, the old legends and so on. I'd also love to read old horror and mystery like stuff that would've appeared in Weird Tales, the 1930s pulp magazine.

Ah, but you see, the heroes I write are different from the stereotype of lazy, lucky heroes (which just apply to contemporary comics anyway; seriously, comics from the last decade are generally really really well written, and of course no-one could ever accuse Batman of being lazy. ) and... well, they're my own unique take on superheroes.

I get ya now, I'd thought you were referencing something like a show or series, rather than the practice of blue ribbons being awarded to first place winners. XP

I’m just getting used to looking like a zombie its all good means I don’t have to splash money on a Halloween costume.

It’s weird but oh wells, most people would still probably say United Kingdom or Ireland anyways, politics :eye roll:

Mmm oddly enough I don’t do a lot of reading, aside from the harry potter novels which now, seven movies later I finally bothered my arse to read I don’t know if I would read horror or mystery, but I would like to read folkture legends those be cool.

Haha no we cannot call batty Lazy, he has no powers so he be’s a hardcore badass all on his own some well that is you showing creative initi.. Spell fail but oh wells. Must definatly have a looksie at your heros.

Mmmm I have a lot of characters and a few species, but no heros, well one is kinda but not at the same time, I have an evil assassian which would be the height of my superhero/Supervillian ness

hahaha it’s all good

Hahaha, well it's about as close to Mike Mignola's style as I can manage, so if you like it go read Hellboy by the master.

Mignola actually did a stint on Batman too, which is pretty cool. My favorite character and my favorite artist.

man you've totally thrown down 2 great pieces this week...your scarab was killer and I'm loving this batman piece. I can see the Mignola influence, but it doesn't take away a thing here - its dark, great action and the zombies are great! I like the way its all shadowed...very noir!
Nice work!! and great choice of composition.

Thanks a lot. The very dark shadows actually kinda take a little away from the detail.. I'm gonna have to work on the style some more to make sure everything that's supposed to be visible is visible. Ah well, practice makes perfect after all.
