Oh yeah, that drove me nuts too. That's why I tend to use sculpy. More fragile but less crumbly.

My roommate had bought Sculpy (somehow) from WalMart, and another roomie left it out so it was crumbly the first time I tried. Blah!

The more I work with it, the more I'm getting used to it being a difficult, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. I've only heard such great things about Filmo. I thought it was a big thing in the clay community that Sculpey wasn't very good, but I haven't had much problem with it. The tiny color bricks I buy are really

I think the problem is (at least I found, but I used the old stuff) that sculpy is more fragile after baking, has less of a gloss to the texture, and the colors can bleed quite a bit when warm. The pluses are that it's easier to knead and make into tiny shapes, and generally less crumbly.
