"As an explorer was sent into a mysterious, overgrown world finding ruins of an ancient civilization he begins to see the world with different eyes. "
A visual development for a 2-D animated short film. The Focus lies on the stylization of nature and the places, which the protagonist comes across. His fantasies and impressions, his change from the factual view of an explorer to an inebriated mindset of exploration.
Nature has been mystified, deified but also researched. Its observation has affected human culture and can be even seen as its root. Mankind has built structures and cultures that may have lived hundreds or even thousands of years – until they are entombed, scattered and forgotten. What remains are the ruins of past times that tell tales from what has been.
This painting is the eighth of a series of paintings, that explore how the different locations the protagonist visits could look like. I've made various sketches and small paintings before I did that final series. I would love to explore the topic further and nail down the story more and finaly realize the short film. But much has yet to be done, especially the character design etc.
"... after a while he wakes up. Everything looks so different. How much time has gone by? What is that glow? He needs to follow..."
