AJ: Ah don't know if this is such a good idea to stay in the Everfree Forest at night...
RD: What? Why? Are you afraid?
AJ: Uh.... maybe? You?
RD: Not one bit. *look behind her shoulder*
AJ: Then, why are so nervous?
RD: I'm not scared! If you are, you just go home and lose the most daring pony title to me!
AJ: Nuh huh. I came here to stay and I'll stay here all night. *look around* Even if ah stay awake all night.
RD: No way! That's part of the challenge we agreed on! Beside, we have a fire to scare them away... *cracking noise, followed by a hurl*
AJ:If... if they don't scare us away first.... I better get more firewood...
RD: W-where are you going?
AJ: Going to get more firewood? Why? Are you afraid?
RD: No. Not at all... I was just... surprised... yeah, surprised that you leave the safe zone.
AJ: If we don't get more wood, the fire will die out. Do you want that to happen?
RD: NOOO! Uh... *cough* I mean... of course not. Go on! But come back fast.
AJ: Or you could fly back home onto your safe cloud house, in your bed.... just for the price of the title.
RD: I'm not going to give up AJ! You'll leave before me!
AJ: Suit yourself. It won't take long...
Rainbow was to herself. Looking around in the darkness, every noise startling her and every shadow made with the light of the fire bringing the worry of a threatening animal who could pounce her with her back turned. Sadly for her, it was a moonless night and she knew that since she made sure that they would attempt this on this kind of night. The mid fall cool weather was bringing some gust of cool breezes and made her slightly shiver. But she felt it wasn,t the wind that brought them.
RD: Uh... AJ? AJ!?! Where are you? Did you found any wood?
Dash took a stick and use it as poker to replaced the burning logs, a way to calm her nerves. I didn't work as expected.
RD: Applejack? Applejack!!!! For the love of Celestia where are y-
AJ: What?
RD: Ahhhhh! Stop doing that! Where were you? I thought you were only going to bring more wood?
AJ: I was right over there... *she pointed the place she was with her hoof* and I when I looked upon the fireplace, I saw something coming from behind you... so I hasted to come back and it disappeared into the forest...
RD: W-what?!?! Where? WHERE?!?! Oh! I got it. You are trying to scare me... Nice try AJ...
AJ: Naw. I was there, I swear.
Rainbow looked at her friend in the eyes. She wasn't lying. She was always saying the truth, and that thought of a crawling critter getting close to her made her stiff and want to quit. If it wasn't of her ego and her image to preserve.
RD: Oh? Really? Well, I would have... kick its flank big time. Yeah.
AJ: Not with your back turned you wouldn't.
RD: I... *sigh* Thanks for coming back.
AJ: Uh... no problem. Friends are made for that.
RD: Yeah. Umm... You better go get the wood now, so the fire won't die on us... and that... whatever creature it was won't come back.
AJ: Okay. Won't be long.
Rainbow was looking at the same place she had he back turn ealier and tried to look for something, some being in the night between the branches. Nothing. Nothing was there and she felt relieved. That it was gone and that her one of her best friends was with her. For the title or not.
AJ: Here you go. *she put more wood into the fire who got more ablazed* That should do it. So Rainbow? Rainbow?
Rainbow shifted into her previous position by the fire.
RD: S-sorry, what?
AJ: What do we do now?
RD: Umm... Why not trying to sleep? It's late and I'm getting sleepy.
AJ: Good idea. My eyes are failing me. *yawn* You get your spot and I get mine.
RD: Uh... It's cold tonigh... even with the fire... maybe she should sleep... close to each other?
AJ: What? I'm no this kind of mare...
RD: No no no! Not like that! Not THAT close. We stay away from each other byΒ a couple of hooves. Just... to stay safe and get the warmth of each other.
AJ: Alright. But not too close.
RD: Okay. But I wouldn't mind... If you get scared that is *nervous laugh*
AJ: I won't need it. I'm fine.
They both find spot close to each other and look at each other from a distance.
RD: Good night Applejack.
AJ: Good night Rainbow.
They both fell asleep at the same time. The next morning, the sun showed her warm rays and straight into the two ponies friends eyes. Only some cinders were what was left of the fire. But they were surprised they were still warm into the morning.
Then, it hit them. They were in each other hooves! The coldness of the night brought them closer that they expected. They froze on that moment realizing it... and even more when some alicorn found them in that situation.
Twilight: Awww.... that's so adorable...
They broke apart immediatly.
Twilight: *giggle*
RD: It's not what you think!!!!
AJ: Really! It's not like that!
Twilight: *giggle* It was still adorable to find you both like that. Two ponies who fight each other for a silly daring pony title and end both cuddling close to the fire...
RD:Twilight! How come you get here? I swear if you ever tell this to anypony...
Twilight: I was flying by to go to the castle of the two sisters' library for reading and I noticed the smoke. Don't worry, I won't. I keep my secrets. And my best friends' secrets even more.
AJ: Uh... Thank Twi. I feel embarassed right now....
Twilight: Why's that? It seems you had a good time together... whatever happened last night... and even if you keep challenging each other, you care for each other. I don't see anything wrong with that...
AJ: Ah... ah don't know... I'm... just surprised I guess...
RD: We were probably getting cold... and got closer... that's all. That's all what happened!
AJ: And you got worried by that beast I told you last night...
T: Huh? What beast?
RD: The one that AJ made me think it was there!
AJ: I told you it was there!
RD: Prove it!
T: I think we got one here... *she pointed at traces of paws hooves from the site* Look!
They both trotted to join Twilight and discovered the traces of a huge timberwolf.
RD: I.... I guess you were right all along... I'm so sorry for doubting you. Thank you.... *she hug Applejack, but soon realizing what she discovered this morning, standed back again* *nervous laugh*
AJ: Y-yeah. You're welcome sugarcube. Like I said, friends are for that, protecting each other from harm... I... I betterΒ get to the farm for my morning chores... See you later. *she left*
T: Bye Applejack.
RD: Yeah... see you AJ... and don't forget.... don't tell anypony.... you know?
AJ: Ah won't!Β For sure! Wait! What are we going to say about those who asked about the challenge? Who won?
T: I'd say it is still a tie.
RD: Twi's right. I guess it is still a tie. Until next time...
AJ: But far from the Everfree forest...
RD: Ha! Agreed. Bye AJ!
Applejack left and left Twilight and Rainbow Dash on the campfire place. Rainbow covered the cinders with dirt to extinguish it and Twilight used her magic to get a good amount morning dew to soak it.
RD: So... What are you doing here this early, anyway?
T: Oh! Me? I got a bit worried about you two. So, I got up earlier to check on both of you. But I really was going to the library, you know? Do you mind accompagnying me?
RD: Nah. It's too bo-
T: I understand... you prefer to stay with Applejack... mostly after that unforgettable evening...
RD: Uh... Ummm.... Uh.... *sigh* Okay. Do you mind if I get something to eat first?
T: Not at all. I'll see you at the library later... if you even DARE to come. *giggle*
RD: *deadpan face* Yeah. I'll see you later.
