Description Ok, this is my first time making a tutorial, so I know it's not very good...and I bet there are a lot of grammar mistakes in there as well...x_x
Anyways, this is mainly for who is such an awesome friend for lending me Photoshop CS2!^^ It's my way of repaying him since he asked me about coloring. I hope it helps John! and I hope other people find this tutorial useful as well! I tried my best

If there are any questions, please feel free to post a comment, and I'll answer them to the best of my ability! Thank you!

Great, easy to follow directions!! I'm new to Photoshop and coloring on the computer, so nothing makes sense to me. But your tutorial is pretty easy to follow and things are becoming more clear!! Thanks!!

she is? lol! i don't watch kim possible, but i guess the long red hair might make them similar? haha~ this girl is actually an original character and well, she went through a lot of changes over the years so she doesn't look like what she does in this tutorial anymore XD;

This tutorial is the greatest one I have come across so far. I have learned so much more about photoshop in 5 minutes from this than in an hour from some of the others I've tried. Your arrows and directions on where the tools are is so, so, so, SO helpful. I never would've have thought that a practice CG could come out this good for me.

I am so thankful for this.

whale-whisker In reply to vari [2007-05-09 05:33:53 +0000 UTC]

So far it's been the only one that has actually taught me anything remotely useful.

The arrows and circles were a key part in it, and I'm happy it was typed out with clear diction. Too many tutorial makers assume that everyone who uses photoshop is a wizard at it, and they just say "Oh, get the smudge tool and go do blah blah blah" XD

This may sound a really dumb question but what's the difference between Flow and Opacity?

good tutorial! but when I zoom in the view gets pixelated... how do you keep it sharp and stuff?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vari In reply to Annerhcp [2007-01-28 12:27:21 +0000 UTC]

It's natural for your image to become a bit pixelated when you zoom in if your original image size is fairly small. I actually recommend working in a larger image size (300-600 dpi) to begin with, so you don't need to zoom in at all

I have a question:
When saving the image into a JPEG file, the image color's become distorted, and it doesn't look good as in the PSD, am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vari In reply to Avalonbluemoon [2006-12-10 20:54:22 +0000 UTC]

Huh...I'm sorry, I'm not too sure why that is since it's never happened to me before. Perhaps it has something to do with after you flatten all your layers to save it as a jpeg image, or maybe something to do with the amount of quality in the image. Sorry I'm not much help

vitellan In reply to ??? [2005-12-08 21:09:57 +0000 UTC]

I think this is an excellent tutorial. One thing I've really wanted to know, though, is how other artists seem to have an instinctive eye for skin tones, color schemes, etc. If you reply to this, I have this to ask you - how is it done? Can everyone envision the mood and instantly select the colors? I save certain deviations I come across, not to distribute, post on other sites, or anything like that, but just to tab bunches of colors off and create palettes...otherwise, I don't really have a clue how skin tones or color schemes are chosen.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vari In reply to vitellan [2005-12-09 05:23:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the comment^^
Er...as for skin tones and color schemes, I think many artists have spent a lot of time going through reference images and other artworks to figure them out themselves (I know I have), and after much practice, it just because easier and more instinctive for them~ That's my opinion anyways, heh! How a picture is colored is up to the artist, so I really don't think there's a "set palette" as to what color schemes go with what mood~ And some colors are just common sense, like if you have an orange sunset in the background, obviously the skin tones will be more tinted orangey and yellow right?

Ehehe I hope that helped..I'm not too good at explaining

vitellan In reply to vari [2005-12-10 13:41:23 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thanks for replying. I guess it is common sense for the color schemes and skin tones, and there is no easy way out of it.
