Description Ok, this is my first time making a tutorial, so I know it's not very good...and I bet there are a lot of grammar mistakes in there as well...x_x
Anyways, this is mainly for who is such an awesome friend for lending me Photoshop CS2!^^ It's my way of repaying him since he asked me about coloring. I hope it helps John! and I hope other people find this tutorial useful as well! I tried my best

If there are any questions, please feel free to post a comment, and I'll answer them to the best of my ability! Thank you!

Actually I did! In fact, my sister thinks she looks better in it~
I'm still contemplating if I should make her blonde or not though...since she's actually a character of mine that I had for a long time, and she's always had red hair~ switching it all of sudden just kinda doesn't seem right to me

I tried coloring according to your tutorial with lineart I scanned and I was unable to get a lineart I could color without the colors going right over the lines. Is there any way that I can get it to not go over the lines without creating a new layer for the black using the pen tool? Would you happen to know? o_o

vari In reply to KonekoTwinBlade [2005-11-13 02:05:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes I know this, haha!
First, open your lineart on photoshop. It should automatically come out as the Background layer. Duplicate that layer and rename it to 'lineart' or whatever. Select your background layer again, and delete your lineart off it. Right now you should have two layers: Background (which should be empty) and Lineart (which should have your lineart on it).
Next, select your Lineart layer and go to Channels (it's one of the tabs on the top). Click on "Load channel as selection" (it's the button on the bottom that looks like a dotted circle), and press delete. Your lineart should be very light now and barely visible now.
Next, LOCK your lineart layer and then choose a very dark color as your foreground color. Then, go to Image > Fill and fill in your lineart layer. Your lineart should be visible now and you should be able to color it without going over the lines^^

I'm not too sure if I explained this well, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

No, it works. Thank you so much! I got a Wacom not too long ago, so I'm still learning some basics for Photoshop. This helps a bunch.

Good tutorial! Well written and easy to follow. I've been kind of learning Photoshop CS on my own but this will help me along. I can't wait to get my tablet, I just can't draw with a mouse.

you dont need a wacom tablet really~ i just recently got one so of course i'm using it now, but before, i colored with a mouse and got pretty much the same results ^_~ a tablet is just a tad more convenient and easier to control, that's all^^

hehe i hope it works well for you!
