He didn't put her there, she walked to the edge because she was too transfixed with horror and grief at the sight of the planet she now called home collapsing before her eyes that she wasn't thinking straight. Okay maybe he should have kept a hold on her but still, don't blame Spock ok? He's been through enough dammit! Just look at his face!

Well....I was actually discussing this with my friends...if you think about it, it was probably Spock's mother who wandered off to the edge of the cliff to watch the last bit of Vulcan crumble (because she is human and humans are illogical, emotional, windbags). Even though it wasn't her home planet, she had still been living there for many years. Also, because of the fact that they were currently being beamed up, she couldn't move. Now, what I want to know is why Spock didn't beam himself down to a more appropriate spot. Honestly, he could have gone right to the ledge where they were going to be beamed up.

Ah but she could have not ran out so far to begin with. If you look closely, she is quite a bit closer to the edge than everyone else. When spock led her out and let go, she kept running. I shake my head at her
