You would think that, but its a guarantee that Unicorns in the Free Citys are working on anti-Changeling magics and troops are being recruited. The Pony's may be herd animals but even herd animals don't abandon there own when captured from a Predator. They have had there early success's but I think that's as far as its going to go. No matter how you look at it, the Changelings are very heavily outnumbered. One City with complete mobilization would be enough to retake Canterlot no matter what Chrysalis does. And for all that she is, she doesn't want to lose Changelings fighting Pony's.

Well I am guessing that they will be smart enough to you know like test ponys to see if there blood is red or background checks or things like that. And from what we see only a small part of the Hives forces are worth a damn in a fight. The Drones were defeated by the dozens by just six ponys during the Canterlot invasion. And they make up the bulk of the Changeling population. Close top 70% I think. The Unicorns are about a 1/3rd of the population and there are abilitys that changelings cannot duplicate. Like the color of there magic. Or innate magic of earth Ponys or Pegasi.

I think this was done on purpose to give them false hope of victory besides we cant forget malnurishment. And background checks count for shit in battle.

No, even in this story its pointed out that Twilight had it easy because they were fighting drones. I believe it was stated in story that Drones were no good in a fight even fully fed. As for battle, It really counts on what leads up to the battle. Chrysalis has shot her bolt and now hopes that with the fall of the capitol the rest of Equestria will bow to her reign. It won't happen.
