Description

Week 2 of basic magic class.

This week the class had to focus on the ability "melt materials." Cobalt was eyeing his hoard of discarded jewelry for nearly an hour, kneading the loose pieces beneath his squishy paws. No matter how hard he pushed his magic, he couldn't seem to direct any heat towards his hands. Cobalt heaved a sigh and glared down at the jewelry who's surface looked back with a mocking gleam. He murmured a few displeased words, then turned his attention to the room about him. There were several students who had successfully melted their piles and were already being sent off with Zagor's approval. How did they do it?

Cobalt continued to glance over the room until he noticed a familiar blue wyngro. In the previous week he had been admiring her from afar, which eventually led to an unfortunate accident between his fingers and a hammer. The injury caused his lesson to be cut short but he was glad to have the chance to see her again. He continued watching the wyngro, not realizing how unnaturally long he had been staring, when she looked up from her gold and caught his gaze . Cobalt's gills and fins flared as he quickly threw his paws on his hoard in an attempt to look casual. His cheeks flushed and magic glands blazed with a fierce crimson. Intense heat mixed with a strong and uncomfortable sensation, spiraling through his body and settled within his paws. The wave a heat erupted from his fingertips, making quick work of the gold. It sank beneath his grasp until all that remained was a puddle of forgotten mockery. Cobalt remained frozen as the girl studied the scene, paused, thanked and proceeded back to her lesson.

Cobalt remained there, frozen for nearly a minute. Slowly he turned to face his victim, perplexed, happy, dazed. Above it all, he felt excited. His stuttering brain grasped for sanity as his hands screamed; the magic was quickly fading from his grasp now leaving him exposed to the metal. The molten gold clung to his paws as a last testament to it's demise, an act Cobalt could only chock up to an act of spite. His mind stumbled through a haze as his hands screamed for his senses to return. It was then that he felt something nudge his arm with a sharp, jabbing motion...

Needless to say, Cobalt's actually not that great with fire magic for obvious reasons. If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen! This poor boy is gonna be a fish stick by the end of this class!
